This colleague provides quantitative analysis of drugs and metabolites from biological matrices to support Pfizer's Small-Molecule Global Discovery portfolio. This is accomplished through sample preparation using automated and manual techniques and analysis using liquid-chromatography/mass spectrometry. Colleagues are responsible for the development of "fit-for-purpose" assays and the associated assay troubleshooting and data analysis.
The primary role of the bioanalytical scientist is to provide quantitative analysis of drugs and metabolites from biological matrices in support of drug discovery programs. Fluid and tissue samples from non-regulated in vivo studies are analyzed to assess the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic properties of new chemical entities. This position requires knowledge and experience in the development of quantitative analytical methodologies using primarily triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry. Knowledge of sample preparation, liquid chromatography, and analytical instrumentation are needed as these colleagues are expected to identify assay issues, and perform the associated trouble-shooting. The bioanalytical scientist is expected to utilize assay automation and IT processes to enable efficient bioanalytical support and to recognize opportunities for bioanalytical process improvement. This position supports a dynamic and complex portfolio so the scientist will experience changing priorities and must be able to balance analytical rigor and resource burn with the study's goals. The scientist must demonstrate good written, oral and interpersonal communication as they will interact with cross-functional partners and bioanalytical teams and are expected to promote and share new bioanalytical practices and techniques within the group.
B.A. /B.S. degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related field is required with undergraduate research emphasis on the utilization of liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, or in vivo sample preparation for quantitative analysis or B.A. /B.S. degree with 1-3 years of experience in quantitative analysis from biomatrices.
Desired: M.S. degree in analytical chemistry with a research emphasis on the utilization of liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, or in vivo sample preparation for quantitative analysis or M.S. degree with 1-3 years of experience in quantitative analysis from biomatrices.
This position is not open at the Ph.D. level.

Knowledge and experience with research informatics systems and tools such as WATSON LIMS

Demonstrated ability to investigate and develop new bioanalytical approaches and strategies either independently or through collaboration.
Lifting mobile phase bottles, 1-2 gallon waste LC-MS containers, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis. Ability to use pipettes, and centrifuges, etc. Ability to wear masks when working with highly potent biotherapeutics (OEB5) and the ability to work in safety hoods for extended hours.
