What You Will Do:
Under minimal supervision, perform as the Lead Biomedical Engineering Technician and technical expert resource in the department for the Biomedical Technicians and hospital staff. Complete a significant amount of scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair of medical equipment of basic to high complexity. Perform incoming inspections, routine maintenance, safety testing, calibration, and repairs in accordance with departmental standards and manufacturer's operator and technical service manuals. Manage assigned medical equipment upgrades, installation and projects. In conjunction with the manager, implement departmental related policies and procedures.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Must meet one of the following educational criteria (Required):
Associate's Degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or related field
Certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related field
Military Biomedical Technology Course or equivalent technical program
CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE/ REGISTRATION:
Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Certification (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Minimum 7 years of experience in servicing medical equipment, preferably in a hospital environment.
Minimum 5 years of technical experience in performing medical equipment installations, testing and repair on a variety of medical equipment.
1 year as a lead worker or supervisory experience, overseeing the work of technical workers is preferred.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of electronics and biomedical engineering technology as applied to the calibration and repair of biomedical equipment and instrumentation.
Knowledge of electronic component characteristics in relation to configuration in AC/DC circuits.
Demonstrated knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.
Demonstrated knowledge of digital electronics concepts.
Knowledge and ability to effectively use electronic and pneumatic measuring devices.
Knowledge and ability to isolate defective or malfunctioning components on medical equipment using mechanical, electrical, and electronic schematics, flow diagrams, technical manuals, and diagnostic test equipment.
Demonstrated ability to properly operate various test measuring diagnostic equipment; such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, DC power supply, electrical safety analyzer, and pressure/vacuum meter/gauge.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools and soldering equipment.
Familiarity with basic anatomy and physiology as applied to the use and operation of medical equipment.
Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to make effective, timely decisions based on sound judgment, data and experience, considering implications and consequences.
Ability to maintain and repair a wide variety of complex medical equipment and systems.
Ability to supervise and motivate the performance of all Biomedical Technicians
Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements covering the repair and maintenance of medical equipment within a hospital environment
