PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for creating, revising and delivering training on a group or individual basis for the organizational practice management system. The Billing Trainer also provides administrative support to billing and support and revenue cycle services departments of Oregon Medical Group.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment as needed.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Occasional evening work. Involves frequent contact with staff at numerous organizational levels. Work may be stressful at times and may involve multi-tasking.


Training Specific Duties:

  • Write and produce course materials and other documentation for the GE System.

  • Train staff in classes or one-on-one as requested or scheduled.

  • Provide new employee department training, including: Excel, GE System and other needed software applications.

  • Discuss and evaluate training needs with employees using knowledge of available resources to formulate learning objectives and the means of accomplishing them.

  • Schedule and maintain Oregon Medical Group training classroom in order to ensure that the room is used effectively and the equipment is ready for use.

  • Provide Customer Service Training as needed.

  • Provide research designed to identify gaps in PASR knowledge base.

  • Assess the effectiveness of training by follow-up with participants and supervisors about on-the-job results.

  • Keep up to date with relevant systems and software to ensure program and training materials are current.

  • Train staff on the usage of insurance Web Portals.

Administrative Duties:

  • Provide oral and written reports as assigned.

  • Work with company and department staff to increase their skills and improve organizational efficiency.

  • Provide support for Department Director, Managers and Supervisors relative to assigned areas of responsibilities.

  • Type correspondence for various management staff and committees.

  • Do on-site visits with clinical and front office staff to assess interdepartmental processes & procedures.

  • Update and maintain department KWP's and compliance manuals

  • Assign & manage usage rights to Revenue Cycle staff for payer (insurance) specific web portal access.

  • Maintain strictest confidentiality.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of personnel practices. Knowledge of office practices and methods. Knowledge of computer systems and applications. Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees and the public. Ability to develop, prepare,& present training information. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities. Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.

EDUCATION: High school graduation or GED. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of clerical/administrative experience in an office setting with at least two years in a medical billing or billing-support role. Knowledge of training, coding and billing principles. Typing ability of 40 wpm. Word processing and computer experience.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time and some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary for the operation of basic office equipment such as computer terminal and telephone. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires hearing in normal acuity range and eyesight correctable to 20/20. Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required procedures. Requires the ability to work quickly under stress. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff, patients and the public. Work may be stressful at times. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: * Apply coding principles consistent with government regulatory standards, payer specific guidelines of the health plans and Oregon Medical Group (OMG) policy. Maintain a current working knowledge of CPT, ICD and HCPCS Level II codes and principles. * Review one hundred percent of all coding for assigned workload at OMG Primary Care Clinics, Radiology facility or Laboratory facility. May assist with coding activities within other clinics/departments. * Query providers as needed when encounters lack clear documentation or missing documentation for a service or diagnosis. Track coding and documentation trends to report at provider/clinic staff meetings to assist with documentation improvement. * Provide price quotes to patients when requested. * Assist clinic and billing staff with any coding related questions pertaining to their assigned providers. * Review and correct coding related denials to maximize reimbursement. Code, enter and bill missing charges when not entered by assigned providers or ancillary staff. * Respond to coding queries sent through EMR messaging system to assist when providers and ancillary staff have questions. * Maintain strictest confidentiality. * Ongoing Customer Service Training. * Perform other duties as assigned. Experience and Skills: PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of coding policies and procedures and reimbursement practices. Knowledge of clinic operating policies. Skill in using computer and 10 key calculator. Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instructions. Ability to work effectively with patients and co-workers. Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. EDUCATION: Equivalent of a high school diploma.
