Our Ann Arbor, MI office is seeking a Billing Specialist to work with our Project Managers. The ideal candidate will be capable of independently performing assigned financial and accounting functions including project setup, client invoicing, project cost and revenue analysis, and support to management.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following for an experienced Billing Specialist. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Prepare and issue client invoices in accordance with contract terms, listing items sold and services performed, amounts due, credit terms, and dates of performance.

  • Project initiation, maintenance, and closeout in Oracle.

  • Prepare rate recalculations and cost data analyses; post invoices, credits and adjustments into Oracle.

  • Prepare project cost, revenue, unbilled/unearned reconciliations and analyses.

  • Provide ad-hoc reports for internal and external customers as requested.

  • Responsible for maintenance of all financial records for assigned projects.

  • Provide accounting and financial support to management, including financial reports and account analyses.

  • Serve as contact for selected clients on collection of accounts receivable.

  • Complete special projects as needed.

  • 5 previous years of experience with billing

  • Previous project cost accounting experience

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Attention to detail is a must

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Job Summary The University of Michigan Shared Services Center (U-M SSC) is a customer service organization focused on providing user-friendly and cost-effective administrative services to the university community. The SSC offers key financial and human resource transaction services to customers through consistent processes and enabling technology. Reporting to the Accounts Receivable Billing Supervisor, the Billing Accountant serves as a critical member of the Accounts Receivable Billing Team. The Billing Accountant is responsible for compiling, analyzing and processing accounts receivable transactions received by the SSC. The Billing Accountant works collaboratively with their fellow Billing Accountant, Billing Senior Associate and Billing Associates. This individual is expected to serve in a leadership capacity on team projects and initiatives. The role will also be expected to work collaboratively with the SSC AR Collections team by answering questions and providing guidance as required. Starting salary is $47,500 and considerations for a higher salary are based on experience. Responsibilities* * Knowledge of and adherence to University of Michigan policies and procedures * Run reporting queries to extract billing lists to ensure all sponsors are billed timely and accurately * Review and interpret sponsored agreements as necessary to ensure billings are completed in compliance with sponsor requirements * Partner with research administrators to research billing requirements and related project expenses, working to resolve requests in a timely and customer service focused manner * Respond to inquiries from schools and colleges or other SSC departments as needed * Provide guidance to Billing and Collections staff by answering questions and addressing issues as they arise * Keep units, partners (i.e. Sponsored Programs) and supervisor abreast of complications that may result in delayed billings. Take corrective actions as necessary to resolve issues arising from overdue billings * Other projects and duties as assigned Required Qualifications* * Bachelor's degree in Accounting * Proven ability to work efficiently and effectively delivering high quality work output * Strong interpersonal skills including effective written and oral communications * Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with co-workers. * Demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage competing deadlines * Propensity to identify and deliver process improvement ideas and suggestions * Demonstrated ability to provide exemplary customer service * Experience working with spreadsheets, query tools and software to extract and analyze data. Desired Qualifications* * Experience with contracts and grant administration, or relevant experience in other accounting or finance areas * Experience working with enterprise financial and administrative information systems (Oracle PeopleSoft helpful).
