BILLING MEDICAL RECORDS SPECIALIST:
Highly- specialized clinical diagnostic laboratory, located on the campus of Hudson Alpha Biotechnology Institute in Huntsville, is hiring a Full- Time, Temporary (possibly temp-to-hire) Billing Medical Records Specialist.
Pay rate: $13.50/ hour
Hours: Monday- Friday 8-5
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Appropriately and accurately pulls records for patient care, quality review, and audits in a timely manner.
Complying Federal and 3rd party payor requests for medical records in a timely manner.
Observe confidentiality and safeguards all patient related information.
Responsible for coordinating the release of medical information to insurance companies, lawyers, state, and federal agencies.
Responsible for processing of subpoenas and court orders, at the direction of the Billing Director.
Provide excellent customer service while meeting deadlines.
Maintain a good working relationship within the department, clients, insurance carriers, and other departments.
Report discrepancies related to results, requisitions, and documentation obtained from the client.
Ensure completion and recording of documentation.
Meet all audit requests within the allotted time frame allowed.
Communicate with private practice, facility, and nursing home clients as it relates to medical records needs.
Meet daily and monthly departmental productivity goals set forth by management to ensure the company is achieving its financial goals.
Notify management of trends identified as needed and at month-end.
Responsible for protection, security, and proper handling of all PHI.
Proactively communicate and escalate billing issues to billing management
Assist with complex special projects and other duties as assigned.

High school graduate or equivalent.
Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Basic computer knowledge.
Previous hospital experience preferred.
Familiarity with HIPAA privacy requirements.
Knowledge of health information management services.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.
Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
Proficient in the use of computers and common office equipment.
Must be energetic, dependable with good attendance and have excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook as well as the ability to learn new applications quickly.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy and time management.
Proven problem solving skills, along with an ability to quickly comprehend and analyze data.
