Job Description Job Description Summary: The Billing / Coding Specialist is responsible for multiple processes within the revenue life cycle for each claim, also the timely collection of insurance and patient accounts receivable for the practice. This position requires the successful completion of all activities pertaining to the billing and collection of patient and insurance accounts. Minimum Qualifications: Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Two years of experience in medical billing required
Two years of experience in ophthalmic billing, patient collections, and coding preferred
CPC Certification and Ophthalmic Certification in coding preferred Essential Skills and Abilities:
Proficient computer skills
Proficient phone skills

Ability to problem solve
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy
Ability to work well in a team environment
Self-directed, highly motivated, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills, proper grammar and writing capability
Possess a caring, patient, and friendly attitude
Excellent organizational skills
Must have a complete understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans
Must be familiar with ICD-10 and CPT Codes
Knowledge of or ability to learn understanding of medical terminology, ophthalmic diseases, terms, and spelling of same Duties:
Reviews the aging collection report as appropriate to ensure the timely collection of receivables
Possesses a complete hands-on working knowledge of applicable billing & collections software
Ability to review, submit, and monitor collection agency accounts, as needed
Answer the telephone and emails and responds to all billing questions in a timely and efficient manner
Monitor changes in insurance plans and policies. Inform leaders of changes immediately
Prepares again reports for all insurance plans and patient balances
Accepts verbal and written credit card information with the highest level of confidentiality
Identifies unpaid patient accounts or insurance claims that are more than 30 days old on a continuous basis and works on collection of same
Enters memos on patient ledger regarding information sent or received from insurance companies or patients
Reviews patient balances on the aging receivable report and takes corrective action as needed to improve insurance and patient collections.
Support the practice core values, mission, vision, and purpose statements to develop and enhance patient experience and care
Maintain practice confidentiality, follow legal, HIPAA & OSHA guidelines, follow the rules and regulations of the practice as documented in the practice employee manual

A valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation is required as this position may be required to travel to various satellite locations as needed for work assignments. Job Type: Full-time Expected Hours: 40 per week Schedule:
Monday to Friday
One early morning or late night per week may be required
Must be able to attend one monthly meeting before or after normal business hours (advance notice will be provided)
