Responsibility for analysis of the Medical Center's billing functions for all facility services. Assists Billing Management with system testing, upgrades, modifications and mandated regulatory changes. Identifies billing issues and recommends possible solutions to increase productivity, maximize cash collections, and improve the revenue cycle.

Responsibilities

Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):

Utilizes billing system reports for analysis, identifies trends and developments; presents findings to Billing Management. Assists with the resolution of billing system and edit issues as they arise.

Keeps Manager informed of all system issues and consults for direction as necessary. Performs testing for new or upgraded systems and applications; analyzes actual vs. expected results; performs root causes analysis as necessary; prepares written documentation, spreadsheets, and/or a summary of findings for Management as necessary.

Assesses the impact of new billing requirements on the operation and recommends procedural or system changes as necessary.

Assists with implementation of automation or other efficiencies upon identification of opportunities. Performs reconciliation of electronic transactions. Identifies errors and performs root cause analysis when rejections are identified; documents results.

Performs or assists with specialized billing functions (i.e., list billing, cosmetic, global, research, hard copy attachments, grants); may assist with day to day billing functions when necessary. Provides assistance with maintaining current and accurate written departmental policies and procedures.

Evaluates actual vs. planned performance and metrics, presents and communicates possible opportunities.

Identifies and suggests resolution for problems involving departments which affect billing productivity or data quality. Maintains accurate notes and electronic documentation of findings; documents requirements, expectations and/or deadlines to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks. Initiates contact with insurance companies as necessary to investigate or resolve payer/edit issues. Maintains working knowledge of the claims scrubber system (currently ePremis) and the Medical Center's main information system (i.e., SMS, Epic).

Qualifications

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:

BA/BS degree in accounting, business, healthcare administration or a related field. Minimum two years experience in a healthcare billing office or health insurance claims environment; familiar with common medical billing practices, concepts, and procedures.

Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to work in a fast paced business office; must be able to coordinate multiple projects with multiple deadlines or changing priorities. Strong attention to and recall for details.

Prior experience with an electronic billing system/claims editor. Proficient with computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite; strong Excel skills. Must be highly organized and possess excellent time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Prior experience in an automated medical office business office or billing practice, hospital billing preferred.

The Applications Analyst II gathers business requirements, conducts needs assessments, and develops functional specifications and build to ensure that developed information technology solutions support business objectives. This level works with minimal supervision and acts as a resource for Applications Analyst I. Responsibilities A day in the life of an Applications Analyst II position at Hackensack Meridian Health include: * Ability to effectively share knowledge with and mentor Applications Analyst I. * Installs/upgrades new/existing applications and components, configures application settings, and validates work performed by Application Analyst I. * Assists in the coordination of end user support activities. * Attends, participates in, and contributes to meetings throughout the facility. * Provides go-live support for users on new applications, modules, and functionality. * Oversees and/or performs analysis of necessary application modifications and works with IT associates and/or the vendor to coordinate the modification. * Analyzes business/clinical needs and requirements. * Interprets end user requirements by fully discussing potential options and helping client move towards optimal solution. * Evaluates the operational workflow that is applied to the system. * Creates system specifications from user requirements. * Creates test plans and tests new systems, version upgrades, and any system modifications. * Documents all outcomes of testing. Reviews Application Analyst I¿s test plans and documented outcomes for consistency and thoroughness. * Responsible for application implementation, troubleshooting, and support. * Presents oral and written communications to project teams and other departments. * Handles moderately complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues and to higher level staff. * Updates system, operational, and department documentation. * Recommends areas for process improvements. * Provides on-call support for applications. * Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein. * Lifts a minimum of 20 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 20 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day. * Adheres to the Medical Centers Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior. Qualifications * Bachelors degree or equivalent years of experience. * Minimum of two years of IT experience. * Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. * Works independently and effectively manages time with minimal supervision. * Strong desktop skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook. * Effective oral and written communication. * Creates and maintains clear, concise documentation. * Collaborates with other team members across the department. * Demonstrates self-direction.
