Mission: Seton Home works to break the cycle of abuse and poverty by providing a caring home, education, and support services necessary to transform the lives of pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children.

Summary:

The Teacher is responsible for curriculum development which facilitates instruction appropriate for students with a variety of academic competencies, backgrounds, skills and learning needs. This position must design and implement daily instruction of all core subject areas to include Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Art, ESL, and PE. The Teacher is to promote a positive climate of learning and excellence where students have the opportunity to enhance their personal growth. This position is supervised by the Assistant Program Director.

Minimum of 1-year employment experience within an academic, social service, or child-care agency.

Position Responsibilities:

  • *Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment of respect and rapport to ensure a positive learning experience for youth with diverse backgrounds.

  • *Organize and prepare materials for daily instruction while ensuring the inventory of classroom materials, may include textbooks, furniture, and other equipment needed to assist in the provision of instruction.

  • *Utilize the adopted curriculum to ensure compliance with National Academic Standards.

  • *Individualize lesson plans to meet each student's academic level.

  • *Develop Individualized Educational Plans to report and document student's developmental progress (cognitive, emotional, social and physical).

  • *Use effective instructional strategies and behavioral management techniques to meet the academic needs of the students.

  • Maintain a record of student's academic progress (grade book) for the development of progress reports.

  • Meet departmental and program deadlines to ensure contractual compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Actively participate in the enhancement and/or improvement of the Emergency Care Program living and working environment in cooperation with the Program Director.

  • Attend administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities.

  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Senior Director or Vice President.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education

  • Bachelor's Degree plus certification by the State Department of Education or other appropriate accrediting body.

  • Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate accrediting body and additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied children preferred

  • Experience

o Preferred 2 years' experience within an academic, social service, or child-care agency.

o Minimum of 1-year employment experience within an academic, social service, or child-care agency.

  • License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation.

  • Valid driver license.

  • Valid vehicle insurance.

  • Submit to a state and federal background check, Child abuse and neglect registry check, and Tuberculosis screening.

  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities.

Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children.

  • Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.

  • MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases

  • DTaP or DTap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one DTaP dose in adulthood.

  • Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of TDFPS Minimum Standards, and Office of Refugee Resettlement- Division of Unaccompanied Children's Services National Care Standards.

  • Possess therapeutic sensitivity to the service population cultural and socio-economic characteristics.

  • Experience with computer software and MS Office (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneDrive).

  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team.

  • Must have good written and verbal skills.

  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • *Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements for the position includes 10% local and 10% overnight.
