POSITION SUMMARY:

Care Provider 2 assists the management team in guiding staff and implementing services for a diverse population of Unaccompanied Children (UC), Unaccompanied Afghan Minors (UAM) and other refugee children. Responsible for the day-to-day care and guidance of the youth in program.

Assists with the management of the living environment of the program and promotes the learning of desirable behavior patterns by youth in a safe and nurturing environment. Program Care Provider 2 is a grant position related solely to the Unaccompanied Childrens Shelter as funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and any successor funding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serves as the staff lead when requested by the Program Manager;

Follows all Maryvilles policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures of the program;

Provides for the basic needs of the children including, but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, clothing, daily routines, recreational activities, laundry and education;

Conducts oneself as a role model for the children/youth;

Strictly observes and implements Zero Tolerance of Sexual Abuse;

Provides consistent line of sight supervision of youth;

Provides and coordinates safe transportation of child/youth to various scheduled activities;

Completes all required logs, forms and reports as directed by Program Manager;

Reports conflicts or concerns to Program Manager;

Assists youth with processing of events which may occur in the milieu;

Attends a minimum of 20 hours advanced training/workshops on an annual basis;

Performs other duties / functions as requested by supervisory personnel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma / GED equivalent required. Bachelors Degree in human services field, preferred;

2 years of experience in working in Maryvilles Jovenes Adelante Program required;

Possess a valid Drivers License.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Skills /Knowledge:

Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in stressful situations;

Proven ability to manage conflict situations;

Demonstrated responsiveness to supervisors, coworkers and children;

Ability to establish trust and positive rapport with children and work within ethical

boundaries;

Ability to effectively prioritize job duties and needs of the children;

Physical Demands:

Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and drive for extended periods of time; ability to walk up and down stairs;

Required to lift/move objects and/or youth weighing in excess of 40 pounds;

Must possess ability to provide physical restraint to youth;

Must have the visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential job functions defined above.

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Will perform work in, and in association with, Maryville program settings and various community settings;

  • Work placement may be at one or more Maryville sites in Des Plaines, Bartlett or Chicago.

  • Duties involve contact with youth who may be traumatized;

  • Must be flexible in scheduling and willing to work evening and weekend shifts.

HIPAA PRIVACY TRAINING AND SANCTIONS:

All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plans policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plans health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan privacy officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirements. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination.
