SUMMARY:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Bilingual Portuguese Language Acquisition Instructional Coach to join the Hudson Public Schools community. Candidates should be able to contribute to a positive environment for student learning and involvement, embracing cultural diversity and multiple perspectives. Should have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the WIDA standards, guiding principles, and proficiency guidelines. Hold a strong belief that all students are capable of achieving and be able to provide support and feedback for a wide range of learners. Have a collegial spirit that supports the team model through collaboration and professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our district community. The primary goal of the Bilingual Portuguese Language Acquisition Instructional Coach is to advance the achievement of multilingual learners by providing job-embedded professional development that enhances teachers' abilities to design and enact linguistically and culturally responsive curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The Bilingual Portuguese Language Acquisition Instructional Coach also supports the overall mission, vision, and values as a collaborative member of the Hudson Office of Multilingual Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide job-embedded professional development to enhance the abilities of teachers in multilingual programs to design and enact linguistically and culturally responsive curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

  • Assist teachers in multilingual programs in expanding their capacity to design relevant and rigorous units and lessons.

  • Coach teachers in multilingual programs to refine instructional practices to maximize student achievement.

  • Collaborate with teachers in multilingual programs to design linguistically and culturally responsive assessments, analyze student assessment data, reflect on practice, and determine next steps for instruction.

  • Design and deliver professional development to advance the abilities of teachers in multilingual programs to meet the needs of learners.

  • Reflect on the efficacy of coaching and professional development using quantitative and qualitative data and make adjustments to improve outcomes.

  • Collaborate with department, school, and district colleagues to analyze student, school, and district data on the achievement of multilingual learners and to make programmatic improvements based on the data.

  • Support the compliance of district, state, and federal guidelines regarding the education of ELs.

  • Contribute to the EL identification process by evaluating home language surveys, administering language assessments, and communicating results to families as well as school and district personnel, as needed.

  • Support coordination of ACCESS testing, including but not limited to training, scheduling, and proctoring.

  • Maintain accurate records regarding the monitoring of Former English Learner and Opt Out English Learners.

  • Coordinate and facilitate EL Success Plan Meetings as needed.

  • Maintain current professional knowledge regarding the education of multilingual learners through reading professional publications, attending professional conferences, and/or participating in other professional learning activities as approved by building administrators, the Director of English Learner Education and/or the Assistant Superintendent.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding personal, work, and school related information for all students and staff of the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience

  • Experience working or leading multilingual programs or classrooms

  • Massachusetts Teacher Licensure at the appropriate level

  • Masters Degree or higher in linguistics, ESL, or a similar field

  • Portuguese language proficiency of at least Advanced Mid

  • English language proficiency of at least Advanced Low

  • Spanish language proficiency of at least Intermediate Mid, preferred

  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committee's policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.

WORK YEAR:

  • 10 month , 183 work days, 2 personal days, 12 sick days prorated pursuant to date of hire

  • Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date.

  • This is a salaried position distributed over 26 paychecks including a lump sum in June to cover summer pay

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have ample periods of standing as well at times. The employee may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
