General Summary

Under the direction of the Arts & Cultural Resources Department (ACRD) Director and/or Programs Manager, the Bilingual Outreach and Grant Coordinator coordinates all activities necessary to advance the objectives of increasing access to the arts for the Lafayette Spanish speaking Community. Works with ACRD staff, the Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission, community leaders, and members of the public to determine the interests and needs of the Lafayette Spanish speaking community in regard to arts and culture.

Provides spoken English-Spanish Interpretation for ACRD programs and visitors to the Collective Community Arts Center. Translates ACRD materials into Spanish as needed. May also occasionally provide translation or interpretation for other City Departments.

This position supports the Arts & Cultural Resources staff by performing a variety of administrative support and office management work involving record keeping, purchasing, receiving, and business processes for the Department. Coordinates with ACRD Staff and the Arts Commission to manage the ACRD grants programs, keep records of grants activities, and participation.

Essential Functions

The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:

  • Responsible for Community Outreach practices and objectives that will provide programs to increase access and participation of Lafayette's Spanish speaking community in the arts and cultural programming offered by the City.

  • Identifies and interacts with representatives of community organizations which can inform staff how to extend services of the Arts & Cultural Resources Department (ACRD) to the Spanish speaking Community.

  • Designs methods, including surveys, and other forms of data collection to identify community needs and perceptions, and devises strategies to provide arts access, activities, and events for Spanish speaking residents.

  • Translates department newsletter, forms, promotional materials, and directions/instructions.

  • Designs and produces informational and promotional materials for distribution in both English and Spanish

  • Distributes promotional materials to various partner organizations and local sites.

  • Plans and staffs department outreach booths at various events.

  • Performs a variety of administrative and office management duties for the ACRD.

  • Type and compose correspondence, reports, budget materials, and other materials requiring judgment as to content, accuracy, and completeness.

  • Draft non-routine or technical material as requested by the supervisor.

  • Administer and coordinate assigned projects; assist in administrative procedures and in keeping financial, budget, and administrative records.

  • Keep advised of the status of the work of the department; make referrals to proper Department personnel as needed.

  • Coordinate with other Arts & Cultural Resources staff on issues related to the Arts & Cultural Resources grants and grant budgets.

  • Schedule use of facilities for activities and events.

  • On occasion, act as City Representative at meetings pertaining to the assigned department.

  • May sometimes be the only staff person on duty.

Typical Qualifications

TRAINING: Associate's degree in Fine Arts, Art Administration, Art History, Architecture, Program Administration, Management, Leadership, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

EXPERIENCE:One year of experience in creating informational promotional materials and/or presentations in English and Spanish in order to reach a bilingual or Spanish-speaking population, orany equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, and techniques of outreach programs

  • Written and spoken Spanish and English

  • Noninvasive information gathering techniques

  • Interpret and relay data to sources

Ability to:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, professional, and educational backgrounds.

  • Compile and analyze statistical data and prepare related reports.

  • Competent computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, databases, and Word; experience updating website information and creating copy and graphics for input.

  • Maintain accurate financial records.

  • Work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

  • Drive an automobile

Skill in:

  • Effective interpersonal relations.

  • Fluent oral and written communication in both English and Spanish.

  • Public relations activities.

  • Organization, data management, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

Special Requirements

Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Colorado driver's license. Must have a safe driving record and provide a copy of the motor vehicle report prior to hiring.
