Description
The City of Richmond Department of Social Services is a seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Bilingual Interpreter in the Economic Support and Independence Division. The incumbent is responsible for implementing strong oral and written Spanish language skills to provide customer service to individuals in the community who have limited or no English communication skills and to assist with the written translation of documents/forms and with verbal interpretations. This City of Richmond Department of Social Services Division may require employees to work at the Marshall Plaza location or at the Southside Plaza Community Center. Location assignment is subject to change.
Duties include but are not limited to
Assisting with information and referral for walk-in customers;
Assisting customers with filling out City applications and forms;
Conducting focused interpretations (spoken) for various City departments by assisting with in-person appointments or over-the-phone;
Responding to and assists with customer requests, inquiries and problems on the telephone and in person;
Ensuring unique cultural concerns are addressed for customers with little or no English communication skills;
Assisting in the facilitation of the Department of Social Services projects to include community outreach events;
Providing written translation of City forms/documents into appropriate language format;
Performing data entry of client information;
Performing routine office tasks such as answering telephones, preparing correspondence, mail processing and filing and preparing routine daily and weekly reports;
Assisting in the facilitation of the Department of Social Services community partnerships and projects.
City of Richmond Department of Social Services employees are considered essential personnel may be required to work during inclement weather and times of declared emergencies.
