Renton Technical College (RTC) is seeking a dedicated High School Program Instructor passionate about empowering Spanish-speaking adults through education. Our values of student-first, trauma-informed instruction, and cultural responsiveness are central to this role. You will be responsible for teaching high school subjects in Spanish while also supporting English Language Acquisition (ELA). This program supports a diverse group of students in varying ages each with unique backgrounds, academic and career aspirations.

Reporting directly to the Dean of the College and Career Pathways Department, you will provide individualized and group instruction tailored to the needs of our students. You will teach high school subjects determined in cooperation with accompanying teachers and administration. This role requires familiarity with competency-based credit systems and HS+ program requirements.

Teaching assignment may include face to face, online synchronous and asynchronous, hybrid and/or flexible teaching that includes face to face instruction with an online synchronous component. This position is represented by the Renton Federation of Teachers (RFT) Employees Association. This positionis scheduled to begin Fall Quarter 2024. This position is scheduled for forty hours/week of instruction and professional activity Monday through Friday.The salary for this position is $91,750 -$109,578 for a 9-month contract. Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include

  • Demonstrating multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and creating an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the program's learning objectives.

  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by SBCTC, OSPI, and/or Renton Technical College.

  • Plan and utilize appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and technology that accommodate diverse student needs.

  • Support students with academic materials and provide constant feedback.

  • Assess student abilities and learning using tests and other materials and methods.

  • Advise new and enrolled students.

  • Review, approve, and process prior learning assessment (PLA) to support student access and success. · Record and report learning outcomes and credits earned.

  • Keep records of and report progress and earned credits.

  • Meet with students to create a plan of action to meet graduation requirements.

  • Create a stimulating learning environment in which students can build critical thinking skills.

  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to inform instructional activities.

  • Work cooperatively with the department of Disability Resource Services to modify curricula or make appropriate accommodations for students.

  • Prepare and deliver lesson plans that reflect necessary accommodation for individual student learning differences and needs.

  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

  • Implement instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to graduation requirements. · Participate in professional development activities.

  • Compile, maintain, and file all student reports, records, and other documents required to demonstrate competency.

  • Integrate different technology and/or applications in the teaching/learning environment.

  • Spark conversations about timely and relevant topics and social issues, such as the Black Lives Matter movement, DACA, immigration reform, elections, crime increase, and public policy.

  • Include lessons on racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, and religious identities, historical periods and events, and social justice.

  • Create an inclusive environment recognizing the nuances of the Spanish language and cultures of Latin American countries.

  • Empower students to engage in important conversations to increase tolerance.

Student Learning and Development

  • Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Keep records of different assessments, results obtained, and list of suggestions for future use when possible.

  • Manage student behavior in the classroom.

  • Keep student attendance.

  • Instruct students who consciously or unconsciously use materials created by others and present them as their own.

  • Coordinate with other instructors, departments, and community partners to achieve course, program and/or college learning outcomes.

  • Participate in program and/or department related meetings, committees, and activities

  • Participate in department and college promotion and/or student recruitment and retention activities. .

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.

  • Earned bachelor's degree in adult education, or closely related fields. Or, three (3) or more years of closely related, full-time, paid work experience in a higher education setting. Earned master's degree in adult education, or closely related fields, preferred.

  • Experience in curriculum development, instruction design, and assessments.

  • Spanish English bilingual and bicultural skills are required.

  • Three (3) or more years of teaching experience preferred.

  • At least one-year experience and thorough understanding of policies, processes, and best

  • Practices specific to prior learning assessment (PLA) and competency-based learning preferred.

  • Background and experience teaching adults in a basic skills program.

  • Experience developing a variety of assessment options for student learning outcomes, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with high school diploma programs, competency based, prior learning, and integrated and/or contextualized basic skills instruction preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.

Degree Stipend:

Master's or Doctorate degree stipends are paid annually.

  • Quarterly Master's stipend: $967
  • Quarterly Doctorate stipend: $1,935
