What you will do at Precinct One

Commissioner Precinct One has an exciting opening for a Bike Program Assistant. Assist the program manager and support program implementation. This includes assisting with planning, data entry, inventory, outreach, and registration for Ride One programs. Program activities include bike safety classes, bike rodeos, community bike rides, and bike maintenance.

The Bike Program Assistant will help plan, organize, and implement bike safety education classes; bike rides; and bike maintenance workshops to educate school administrators, seniors, parents, and students about pedestrian and bicycle safety; build multigenerational pedestrian and cyclist awareness; and get more people on bikes safely. We promote the use of bicycles as transportation and safe places to ride for all ages. The bike program brings more people together to teach individuals how to ride a bike safely. The Bike Program Assistant will help with general bike service, repairs, and maintenance of 200+ bikes as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with set up and participate as needed in bike programs (rides, presentations, maintenance)

  • Assist with the planning and promotion of activities.

  • Data entry as related to registration, inventory, and general day-to-day operations.

  • Maintain an inventory of all program equipment and supplies. Recommend requisitions as necessary and assist program manager with budget preparation.

  • Other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Experience:

  • One (1) year of experience in leading recreational activities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications which could include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Licensure:

  • Valid driver's license (Texas upon hire)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have the knowledge and skill to ride a bike, willing to work in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather elements.

  • The ability to communicate effectively the hard skills needed to ride a bike with all skill and age groups.

  • He/she must have solid customer service and will be working directly with the public

  • Candidate should also possess a strong background in bike mechanics or the willingness to learn.

  • Knowledge of physical fitness/ health is a plus.

  • Candidates with the ability to drive a vehicle with a trailer attached are highly desired.

  • Must have physical ability to lift 45 lbs.

Preferences

Education:

Position Type:

  • This position will be required to work several evenings and a few weekend days per month, depending on event scheduling (with time worked outside of regular office hours offset with the flexible work arrangement policy).

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This is an active position that requires moderate physical activity. Ability to exert up to 20+ pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

About Precinct One

There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of the Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county's government.

With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One's multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.

Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct's territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center.
