This position exists to provide engineering expertise to MnDOT and its partners on pedestrian and bicycle design for facilities developed within the state highway right of way. This will be accomplished by performing research and working with MnDOT staff and partners to develop and implement policy, standards, and engineering guidance for pedestrian and bicycle facilities and networks.
A Civil Engineering Degree
AND Employee must be licensed as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design or be able to obtain licensure through reciprocity;
AND experience in:
Engineering expertise related to pedestrian and bicycle facility designs;
Knowledge of state and federal transportation design policies and manuals;
Traffic Engineering experience;
Ability to execute contracts and activities involving non-motorized transportation users,
Technical writing skills to prepare engineering standards and policies;
Ability to research and understand engineering documents and state and federal law, in particular in relationship to pedestrian and bicycle needs;
Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products for communicating in writing and through public presentation;
Public presentation skills to communicate MnDOT roles and policies to public and private partners and advocacy groups;
Writing skills sufficient to correspond via email, letters, memos, to explain detail design plans/suggestions andwritten recommendations;
Human relation skills sufficient to work with district personnel, CO personnel, and other MnDOT offices;
Valid Drivers license.
