Job Description for Big Data Engineer
Overall 10+ years working in IT, as Database/BI/DW professional
Experience working in/Understanding of Big data, Data warehouse/BI and analytics technologies
Played pivotal roles as a Lead engineer and support staff across domains
Knowledgeable in open source Big data technologies Spark, HBase, Hadoop (Cloudera preferable), Sqoop, Scala, Impala, MapR and Map/Reduce, Pig, Hive
Exposure to commercial platform Big data technologies from providers such as Cloudera, IBM (Netezza) or Oracle (Exadata)
Clear understanding of usage and implementations at scale of NoSQL solutions like Hbase, Hive, Cassandra, MongoDB, CouchDB, and be comfortable with commercial solutions too
Expertise in Relational SQL databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL etc.), Analytics platforms (e.g.
DataStage or similar) and OLAP technologies
Must have worked with solutions/projects involving both real time as well as offline analytics involving multiple sources of data
Must have some understanding of data integration technologies and methodologies (API driven, ETL tools like Data Stage, Golden gate, Oracle Data Integrator etc.)
Be very comfortable with Agile methodologies in order to be able to arrive at difficult engineering decisions quickly
Must have had experience creating solutions or solution concepts and defending these with technology councils / architect groups
Worked in projects to integrate enterprise data with high volume and velocity 2nd or 3rd party data from other sources such as Social channels or 3rd party sources
Should have experience of working in Healthcare Industry (or similar) to understand the data security requirements like PCI/HIPPA/SOX etc.
Should have seen at least one implementation complete lifecycle implementation and subsequent infrastructure tuning for a major Big Data project
The primary focus will be on choosing optimal big data and analytics solutions to use, then maintaining/supporting, implementing, monitoring and optimizing them. You will also be responsible for integrating them with the architecture used across the company.
Oversee the work being done by other engineers working on the team, coordinating team activities with other teams and product groups, maintaining Big Data architecture standards.
Contributes in leading and directing Big Data Infrastructure engineering resources to ensure timely and quality delivery of services.
Work with Customers, end users and development partners to define and assess technical requirements and understand the current state of technology to define opportunities that create business value.
Work with other architects to define the technical architecture structure to ensure that the products and components work together to meet the objectives and performance goals as required by the customer.
Fully understand the capabilities and limitations of the technical environments.
Work with the third party support team (on-shore and off-shore) and application support teams to educate and guide them for steady-state supporting big data infrastructure related technologies.
Very good English language skills (verbal & written).
