GENERAL SUMMARY: Assists physicians with examinations and procedures to serve the medical needs of patients with various cardiac related health conditions in a professional, confidential, and caring manner. Coordinates the flow of patients, phone calls, lab work, and nurse visits to facilitate quality patient care and customer service goals. Provides professional nursing care as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, any applicable licensure/certification requirement and organizational policies and procedures. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Performs nursing and other patient care activities to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of the patient. 3. *Screens patients for appropriate information to ensure the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is current. 4. *Prepares patient for examination treatment through BH#s rooming process; taking patient history and vital signs, completes medication reconciliation and accurately documents in the EHR available to the consulting physicians. 5. *Registers and maintains timely, complete information in the patients# EHR and charts to ensure accurate patient care. Posts tests and examination results immediately. 6. *Upon direct assignment, supports provider(s) in a primary role, coordinating and facilitating patient care and follow up to achieve quality patient care and customer service goals. 7. *Ensures that exam rooms are clean and well stocked with necessary equipment and supplies. 8. *Prepares equipment and aides physician during examination of patients. 9. *Performs electrocardiograms. 10. *Dispenses medication as directed. Observes and records patient#s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments, and reports same to provider. 11. *Educates patients and their families about diagnostic procedures, medications, post-treatment instructions, nutrition and maintenance of general health and wellness. 12. Understands diagnosis allowed for ordering tests/procedures to ensure reimbursement. 13. Assists Bryan Heart with pre-authorizations, release of information requests, FMLA certification, etc. 14. Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. 15. Maintains patient confidentiality. 16. Manages work hours, supplies, and other clinical costs in line with fiscal responsibility and budget. 17. Attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned. 18. May assist providers at both Lincoln and Outreach Clinic sites. 19. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 20. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 21. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk ##. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient#s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies. 2. Knowledge of nursing and clinical systems. 3. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to nursing practice, OSHA and HIPAA requirements. 4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 7. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information. 8. Ability to integrate new work processes and adapt to change. 9. Ability to exercise courtesy, tact and professionalism. 10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment relevant to changing patient needs. 11. Ability to ride in a car and fly in a small plane. 12. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited professional nursing program required. Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Nebraska required. Minimum of one (1) year nursing experience required, clinic nursing preferred. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
