Position Summary: Mental Health Worker will work to cover psychiatric evaluations# (5150/5585), then once handoff has occurred, will provide care to acute and critical care floors.

Mental health Worker evaluates and treats a wide variety of behavioral, emotional, and developmental concerns that complicate medical care and recovery from illness, teach specific coping techniques to children struggling with serious childhood illnesses, and teach parents specific strategies for parenting their medically ill children.# Evaluation of unexplained or difficult to treat somatic symptoms, non-adherence to medical recommendations, trauma symptoms related to medical procedures, anxiety, behavioral problems, delirium, adjustment to medical illness (including family contributions to adjustment in the child), or depression/SI. Manages patient documentation in the medical record. Participates on committees as required.

Other duties may be required or assigned. Position Requirements: Education:#Masters Degree in clinical social work or marriage and family and child counseling, marital and family therapy, psychology, clinical or counseling psychology, or counseling with an emphasis in either marriage, family and child counseling or marriage and family therapy from an accredited school.


License:


#Licensed (or licensed eligible) by the Board of Behavioral Science in California as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist or Registered Psychologist, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Experience:#Prior work experience in an pediatric crisis settings, acute psychiatric setting, and healthcare setting which has included assessment of psychiatric and behavioral health patients, 5150 evaluations, and level of care determining, family treatment, and aftercare and discharging planning.

Prior work providing therapeutic interventions to in a pediatric acute care hospital. Prior experience with medi-cal documentation requirements. Prior experience with children and families in diverse communities and exposed to multi-stressed environments. Knowledge, Skills


Abilities:


#Must be knowledgeable with psychiatric, psychosocial and legal issues and substance misuse/abuse and chemical dependency assessment and treatment, understanding of current insurance benefits and restrictions in the area of mental health, knowledgeable of DSM-IV-TR, ICD-10, DSM-V, trauma informed care,# family systems therapy and crisis intervention models.# Knowledge of child, elder and dependent adult abuse and domestic violence reporting requirements and other significant regulations affecting clinical social work practice (e.g. Tarasoff, patient-psychotherapist privilege). High level of expertise and of knowledge of suicidal and homicidal behavior, and the skills necessary to assess lethality, and to develop appropriate treatment plans.

Knowledge and understanding of human behavior and communication, psychotherapy, case management, and the influence of cultural and spiritual values in social work practice. Word, Excel, EPIC, GroupWise. Medical Staff Membership:#Required for Psychologists in order to practice at this facility Physical Requirements:
