The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration of Five Below's leave of absence program, as well as assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, and 401(k) plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer leave of absence process, including:

  • Coordination between our Crew, our vendors, and management

  • Preparing files for HR and management

  • Ensuring proper documentation within HR systems

  • Ensure proper running of Five Below's parental leave program, including:

  • Coordination between our Crew and our vendors

  • Calculating benefits and preparing payroll files

  • Documentation within timekeeping system

  • Updating and distributing educational materials

  • Coordinating Five Below's Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability plans

  • Coordination with our Crew, management, and HR

  • Provide information to vendor to assist with determining eligibility

  • Ensure compliance with all local leave laws

  • Assist with build, test, and launch of leave administration system, including testing integrations with other HR systems

  • Support Life Insurance claims

  • Coordinate with beneficiaries on claims

  • Ensure proper documentation is provided to beneficiaries and vendors

  • Provide support to impacted Crew

  • Support Five Below's paid time off benefits (vacation, personal/sick, Take 5 time) and development of policies

  • Assist with benefits administration for annual enrollment, new hires, and QLEs

  • Support orientation and help coordinate benefits events

  • Oversee the timely response to all benefits-related mail

  • May support other Benefit areas including:

  • Providing support to Crew related to benefit programs, policies, and processes

  • Supporting enrollment and maintenance of Five Below's 401(k)

  • Partnering with Payroll team to provide various payroll files

  • Workers' compensation coordination

  • Partnering with vendors and internal management to ensure complete and accurate documentation of incidents

  • Providing HR data to partners

  • Tracking and submission of invoices

  • Coordination of wellness events and initiatives

  • Implement new programs and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 2+ years of previous HR experience required

  • Experience with leave of absence processing, including but not limited to FMLA, ADAAA, and state leaves

  • Prior experience with benefits (medical, 401(k), disability) is preferred

  • Overall ability to thrive and excel in a fast-paced, fun environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Self-motivated and organized with a desire to excel, learn, and grow

  • Computer proficiency with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office - with emphasis on Excel

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to get things done in an entrepreneurial and high growth environment

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues independently

  • Proactive approach to business: recognize inconsistencies, make recommendations to improve processes

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required (less than 5% of time)
