Benefits Specialists are responsible for:

  • Serves as the first point of contact to respond, in accordance with established policies, to routine benefit or payroll-related inquiries from employees or external sources.

  • Maintenance of accurate employee benefits data in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and may be responsible for data entry in benefit vendor web-based systems

  • Coordinates benefits enrollment for new staff. Ensures that newly eligible staff receive benefit enrollment information; tracks new hire completion of benefit enrollment; follows up as needed with staff for required documentation.

  • Works with HR team to plan and execute annual benefits enrollment. Contributes to the setup of systems, development of communication materials, and ongoing follow up with staff to ensure successful completion of annual enrollment.

  • Administration of leave of absence and workers' compensation programs. Responsible for processing Basic/Supplemental life, LTD, AD&D insurance claims. Works with vendor to proactively resolve problems.

  • Coordination with Payroll to ensure accurate benefit deductions and PTO for staff on leave.

  • Responsible for Wellness program and tracking of employee achievement of required activities receive wellness incentive. Contributes to the development of wellness programs and initiatives. Coordinates with wellness and benefits providers.

  • Conducting periodic benefits audits

  • Please Note: during the covid pandemic, the position will work remotely, with the exception of occasional visits to the office for training, processing incoming/outgoing mail, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related field. Knowledge of human resources benefits practices and applicable laws and regulations

  • Intermediate verbal and written communication skills in order to present information effectively in writing and in person. Ability to interpret policies and procedures, and apply state and federal regulations at a level normally acquired through two years of progressively more responsible related Human Resources experience.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully gather and exchange information with internal and external customers, communicate policies and procedures and to advise managers and employees.

  • Analytical abilities necessary to collect and report on quantitative and qualitative data related to leaves of absence and benefits programs.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and issues.

  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Familiarity with HRIS applications, and ability to navigate and maintain data within such applications. Knowledge of office systems, procedures, equipment, etc.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate with others in order to gather and exchange information.

  • Ability to conduct and respond to telephone inquiries.

  • Ability to continually proofread, check and verify data from printed form and computer monitor display.

  • Ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to enter, retrieve, and/or audit information and data on a continual basis.

  • Ability to pull, lift and transport files and documents to and from various areas within office.
