Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Benefits Manager! The Benefits manager Manages company-wide benefit programs including retirement plans (qualified and non-qualified), medical, life / AD&D, disability, (STD, LTD) benefits & FMLA administration for shoreside employees. Responsible for analyzing and evaluating current benefits practices and making recommendations on new and/or improved employee benefit plans and cost-saving measures and/or ensure company offerings are competitive. Ensures compliance with all legal requirements of various employee benefit programs and reviews all required filings for ERISA governed plans and section 125 cafeteria plans. Build and implement internal benefits related workflow processes across the company to align sound practices with departmental strategy.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for end to end administration of employee benefits programs such as retirement, Health and wellness, term life, STD/LTD, employee stock purchase and FMLA. Ensures plans are administered to be fully compliant with plan specifications, federal rules and laws and company guidelines. Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits. Report necessary suggested changes to management. Manage and maintain benefits communications, i.e. new hire enrollment packages, brochures, newsletters, articles and intranet information.

  • Build and implement internal benefits related workflow processes across the company to align sound practices with departmental strategy. Measure and report on the effectiveness of benefits programs in areas such as utilization, cost management and perception of program value.

  • Analyze and evaluate current benefits and make recommendations on any changes needed to ensure compliance with regulatory changes or to maintain competitive benefits programs that will attract and retain top talent.

  • Work closely with management, internal departments (i.e., Finance, IT, HRIS), external vendors and advisors to ensure efficient and effective operation of all benefit programs. Manage the preparation for the quarterly Retirement Plan Committee meetings.

  • Handle benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable and courteous resolution.

  • Manage, develop and cross-train staff. Ensure staff programs and processes are documented with the goal of continuous process improvement for accuracy and efficiency.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred

  • Preferred certification - CEBS or CBP

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience managing and implementing self-insured benefit plans with at least 5 years of management responsibility.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to use a PC as well as Microsoft Office Suite and HRMS.

  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge and application of health, welfare and wellness program plan designs; compliance including HIPAA, COBRA and FMLA; and best practices.

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to successfully take ownership of program life cycle from research / analysis to rollout and administration, including costing, design and gaining buy-in.

  • Demonstrate experience managing effective relationships with external partners and benefits vendors.

  • Strong planning, decision-making and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects.

  • Knowledge of HCM systems (Oracle, Cornerstone, Lawson) as it pertains to benefits administration.

  • Ability to create and interpret spreadsheets as well as review, analyze, interpret and negotiate contracts.

  • Ability to build strong partnerships with management at all levels to foster trust and accountability, ensure needs are met in a timely manner with the highest level of customer service.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, supervising and team development in addition to driving continuous process improvement.
