The Sangamon County Department of Human Resources is looking for a Benefits Coordinator/Payroll Technician. This non-exempt position will serve as the primary Benefits Coordinator and assist with various payroll functions. Sangamon County serves 740 employees and our insurance program also covers dependents/retirees.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be expected to manage the Benefits program for the County and the Worker's Comp function. Coordinate of employee benefits for Sangamon County employees that include health, prescription and dental insurance, Worker's Comp, various life insurance plans and supplemental insurance plans, deferred compensation, the Employee Assistance Plan, and the Section 125 cafeteria plan.

Other payroll duties include, but not limited to: balancing and reconciling accounts, inputting data, creating accounts payable batches, and other payroll related functions. The incumbent will work with our pension provider, the Illinois Department of Employment Security and various Benefit providers.

Requirements

High School diploma; preference given to a college degree with a concentration in bookkeeping, accounting or related area.

• Knowledge of accounting principles and practical bookkeeping experience.

• Proven experience maintaining and inputting data and records of financial transactions within accounts; posting transactions; ensure legal requirements compliance.

• Balancing and reconciling accounts.

• Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and problem solving ability; Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to the creation and administration of a government payroll.

• Computer literacy and experience including knowledge of Excel, Access, word processing, payroll software preferred and other applicable spreadsheet software programs.

Benefits

Hours of work: Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm (except holidays when the county building is closed)

Benefits available: Medical, dental & life insurance. Pension, IMRF. Vacation, sick & holiday pay. Salary range: $55,628-$83,442
