The Benefits Analyst for Leave Administration will work with all employees across the University at every level to advise and provide guidance on the leave programs at the University. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of professional Human Resources experience in the benefits area of leave management. Strong business acumen, excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills are required. Experience in Higher Education is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and administer the Family Medical Leaves (FMLA) to ensure compliance with federal regulations. Educate employees and supervisors about the process and applicability of all disability plans, workers' compensation and FMLA regulations. Serve as the legal expert regarding the above mentioned plans.
Provides weekly updates to Payroll and HRIS of pay status for employees who are on leave, including monitoring sick and vacation balances.
Manages/oversees short-term and long-term disability process to ensure employee and third-party administrator compliance. Updates HRIS system(s) to accurately reflect an employee's leave status
Coordinates and communicates with Workers Compensation Claim Adjusters and Nurses and supervisors on a continual basis to ensure claims are handled in a timely manner and appropriate medical treatment and accommodations are provided as necessary.
Manage all workers' compensation and disability cases to assure proper case management and effective financial cost analysis and reporting. Proactively reviews and evaluates above mentioned benefit plans, explores new products, makes enhancement recommendations and researches financial implications prior to implementation.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with outside representatives/vendors to enhance role as principal contact.
Manages American with Disabilities Act (ADA) process, including engaging in the interactive process and reviewing all medical documentation and accommodation requests with employees, supervisors and employee relations representatives, as needed.
Maintain a professional awareness of current and changing trends, including governmental regulations, in the field of employee benefits but in particular as they relate to above mentioned subject matter areas
Accurately complete and submit required benefits reports to ensure University compliance with federal and state guidelines and with internal reporting requirements
Manages additional disability benefits including Individual Disability Insurance (that complements employer paid LTD) annual open enrollment.
Serves on the Safety Committee
Review current leave processes and recommend areas for automation
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. CEBS, CBP and/or SHRM certification a plus.
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience managing leaves. Must have experience with but not limited to the following benefit programs: FMLA, short and long-term disability, parental/maternity leaves, and workers' compensation; preferably in a higher education setting.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
Ability to communicate effectively and reduce legal and financial elements to ensure managers and employees understand the policies and procedures accompanying leaves
Must have strong analysis and decision-making skills
Demonstrated effective judgment in managing difficult situations with the ability to respond to situations with urgency, in a calm and proactive manner
Strong facilitation and conflict management skills while maintaining a strong customer service orientation are required
Must have a strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
Knowledge of HR laws-Federal and State, including FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, and general HR governing policies
Equipment Knowledge
Strong knowledge of computer and web-based systems, and general office equipment.
Efficient in Banner and UKG is strongly preferred

7 + years managing leave programs in a higher education setting
Project management skills
