What You'll Do

Acts for administrator by independently providing program direction & relieving superior of non-routine duties pertaining to the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program within the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) (e.g., serve as lead mental health worker in collaboration with other team members responsible for implementing employee wellness initiatives & policies; etc.); Independently develop mental health resource lists, locate available law enforcement mental wellness programs & refer employees in need of mental health or addiction treatment to identified resources (e.g., maintain mandatory sessions with sworn officers during biennial physicals; conduct one-on-one sessions to discuss stressors &/or other concerns as needed or upon request; determine what type of resources may be needed); Directly assist employees to locate resources to improve or restore capacity for social functioning, including counseling, the use of psychosocial interventions & social psychotherapy screening methods (e.g., provide mental health checks for first responders & highway patrol civilian staff using the Screening, Brief Intervention & Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) process to determine the need for additional mental health or substance use treatment; make determinations & develop individual recommendations relative to referral & treatment options; provide information on support groups for employees involved in shootings, diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), military support, family support groups &/or other groups as requested); Research, analyze & evaluate materials, programs, procedures & policies or information related to mental health (e.g., new mental health resources, behavioral based & addiction treatment options, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, mental health awareness, first aid & officer wellness training topics); Evaluate quality & quantity of services provided & recommend changes in delivery techniques; Provide technical advice on new methods, concepts &/or approaches to be utilized to aid administrators in decision making.

Answer &/or create complex &/or confidential correspondence/reports; Attend &/or conduct staff meetings to discuss rules & operating procedures relating to assigned areas; Maintain necessary documentation to satisfy requirements of federal, state & local agencies &/or accrediting bodies; Perform outcome reviews & develop reports; Provide recommendations to modify, enhance &/or improve efficiency of case processing & program implementation; Establish & maintain working relationships with other facilities, agencies &/or support services (e.g., therapists, substance abuse treatment facilities, etc.) in order to coordinate referrals & conduct follow-up; Represent Administrator at conferences &/or meetings.

As schedule allows, deliver trainings (i.e., Question. Persuade. Refer (QPR), Stress First Aid (SFA) &/or other trainings) to employees on an ongoing basis or upon request; Create & distribute monthly educational series for employees; Attend & participate in training conducted by the Employee Wellness Section, including the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation training pertaining to privileged communication; Provide educational materials related to stress, mental health, substance abuse, &/or trauma; Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; 2 yrs. trg. or 2 yrs. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position or staff position involving planning, research &/or policy/procedure development.

  • Or 1 yr. exp. as Program Administrator 1, 63122.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above
