The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Behavioral Health Clinician (Child Protection Team, Case Coordinator) within the Crisis Intervention & Support Division within the Human Services Department.

General Description

Provides counseling, screening, assessment, and intervention to individuals and families.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, gerontology, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, human services, or closely related field to area of assignment.

Requires one (1) year in social services casework, counseling or closely related field to area of assignment.

Requires six (6) months of clinical case management may also be required.

Special Requirements

May be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Preferences

Licensed as Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Certification in Child Welfare.

Bilingual English/Spanish, English/Creole and/or English/Portuguese.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Interviews children, family members and significant others to obtain medical and psychosocial information.

Completes assessments and send reports to Child Protective Investigators upon completion, but no later than within the time frames consistent with the program requirements and best practice.

Coordinates client services and referrals to community agencies. Arrange for and conduct team meetings and participate in the development of recommendations.

Provide depositions and court testimony. Maintain client records.

Completes intake/referral screen on all abuse reports referred to CPT.

Conducts quality review for compliance.

Conducts clinical screenings, interviews and bio-psychosocial evaluations in hospital district.

Conducts home and community visits as needed to provide substance abuse counseling to participants and their families.

Observes, evaluates, and monitors reports and records program participant status and progress.

Conducts group and individual counseling sessions.

Develops treatment plans with program participants and/or their families.

Maintains associated clinical records manually and/or electronically using computer-based applications.

Prepares accurate and timely written reports on assigned caseload using computer-based software applications.

Observes, evaluates, monitors, reports and records client status and progress.

Counsels program participants, including those with complex issues; facilitates intermediate and advanced group sessions concerning substance abuse and co-occurring related issues.

Provides advocacy services to clients (greets family, obtains consent for medical exam, walks client to the exam room, provides emotional support during the examination, provides counseling service referrals and any other referrals family may need).

Answers after hours calls from front desk, and from the 24-hour rape hotline.

Assists with physical abuse intakes for Child Protection Team.

Acts as an advocate between the families and law enforcement, state attorney's office, or child protective services to ensure that the needs and/or concerns of the client are being addressed.

Assists clients with completing assistance applications.

Participates in meetings and trainings as scheduled.

Coordinates treatment with other community, governmental and service providers.

Prepares accurate and timely written reports on assigned caseload as well as the quality and/or quantity of work completed.

Confers with program participants, their families and/or other caregivers regarding issues of treatment.

Documents progress notes and tracks daily reports for documentation purposes.

Assists with special projects assigned by the supervisor.
