ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services.

  • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.

  • Responsible for conducting safety checks and ensuring that supervision is conducted at 15 minute intervals, as noted in special precautions, or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed.

  • Document timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record.

  • Assist in providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment for patients, significant others and staff.

  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.

  • May oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration and changing bed linens.

  • May obtain patient's vital signs, height and weight as assigned and document in patient record.

  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups which cover a variety of topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management and independent living skills.

  • Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.

  • Complete and maintain required documentation. Assist with follow-up and paperwork as required on incidents and events that may take place in the facility.

  • May provide transportation for patient or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff member.

Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority

Located in the heart of vibrant Austin, Texas, 58-bed Austin Lakes Hospital offers a continuum of psychiatric services for adults 18 and up with acute mental health needs in a confidential, caring environment that promotes crisis resolution, positive self-awareness, personal growth and problem solving skills. The cornerstone of our treatment rests on exceptional mental health services and clinical excellence. Our continuum of care includes inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services to stabilize symptoms of depression, anxiety and other behavioral health disorders. Position Schedule: 7p-7a; Mon. and assist with weekend coverage. (24 hrs/wk) Receives all referral/inquiry calls and responds to requests for information, assessment, and possible admission. Provides and documents thorough and accurate assessment of individuals seeking admission. Assures accurate information is provided to referrals as requested. Collaborates with Business Office staff to ensure that payor information is obtained and verified. Performs assessments and medical screenings. Collaborates with clinical referral sources, families, doctors, agencies, and other callers to ensure assessments and/or admissions are coordinated as smoothly as possible. Ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed and nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient's condition/history. Completes the administrative paperwork, including consent and releases to insure that patients are fully informed during the admission process. Qualifications SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal and written. Ability to prioritize; work well under periods of high stress and pressure. Demonstrates an understanding of funding entities. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital. Ability to work flexible hours. Requires a basic understanding of computers; and accurate data entry skills. Knowledge of insurance contracts and payors. Knowledge of precertification for inpatient hospitalization. EDUCATION: Required: Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing. Preferred: BSN LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas. Must be able to attain Qualified Mental Health Professional status. EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of three years nursing experience. Minimum two years' experience in admissions or case management. Preferred: Previous admissions experience in a psychiatric hospital setting.
