Overview
Facilitates the maintenance of the therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit and assists patients with daily living activities. Establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients. Takes vital signs, weighs patients and collects routine specimens. Attends and participates in group therapy, in-service education and staff meetings.

Responsibilities
Patient Care:
Provides empathetic interactions with patients
Responsible for creating a calm environment may deescalate situation that arise.
Assist patients in attending and participating in therapeutic activities
Conduct patient observations in accordance with physician orders and regulatory requirements
Report observations to your supervisor and/or other treatment providers
May take vital signs and routine specimens
Respond to safety codes
May train new staff
1:1 patient companion
Collaboration and coordination
Participate in all required trainings and educational activities
Participate in department level meetings and huddles
Be responsive to email
Documentation and Administrative Functions
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Education:
HS diploma-GED
Experience:
1 year experience with working with individuals with mental health conditions or disabilities preferred
License(s)/Certification(s):
May be required to obtain BLS within six months of hire for certain sites.

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Department: Inpt Adult MH- Luth;
Shift: Day/Evening combo 7a-3:30p and 3p-11:30p, every other weekend/holiday, 32 hours/week. Nights 11p-7a every other weekend, alternating holidays, 24 hours/week;
