Job Title: Behavior Technician

Job Summary: The behavior technician plays a crucial role in providing support to ensure student and staff safety. Under the training of district behavior specialists, the behavior technician builds teachers' skills and understanding of effective behavioral practices to increase student learning. A behavior technician ensures effective interventions are provided to support student behavior and social-emotional learning.This person is responsible for assisting students prior to, during, and after a crisis situation by observing students and modeling behavior techniques in the classroom and school building. Behavior technicians work collaboratively as a team with members of the Student Services Department as well as within school and district teams.

Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree (48 college credit hours) or higher

  • Experience working with students who need additional support and who may experience crisis situations

Reports To: School Principal with support from the Behavior Specialists

Responsibilities, Duties, & Expectations:

  • Assist in developing and implementing Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions and strategies as identified through the School Based Behavior Support Team

  • Provide crisis intervention services and/or supervision of students, as needed

  • Assist staff in following functional behavioral assessments (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP) for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors

  • Generate, collect and maintain data of student progress on behavior goals; staff check ins and classroom observations to provide feedback as needed

  • Provide core behavior expectation training/support for individual students & classroom management training/support

  • Attend behavior related team meetings (MTSS, BPST, individual BIP) and required meetings with district behavior team

  • Collaborate with school personnel and mental health staff to coordinate student goals and expectations

  • Build meaningful relationships with students as individuals

  • Provide scheduled social skills training for students

  • Support students in performing individual and small group work activities and tasks in and outside of the classroom

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills & Competencies: The successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of North Carolina content standards.

  • Experience in researched-based practices Ex) de-escalation, positive reinforcement, social skills & responsive classroom

  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues.

  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, staff and school related business

  • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.

  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.

  • Demonstrated strengths in organization, communicating expectations, time management, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.

  • Evidence of ability to track and monitor implementation progress

  • Established dedication to help all students achieve.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.

  • Ability to encourage and advocate for teachers.

Physical Requirements: The following list includes the physical requirements of the position:

  • Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc.

  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle

  • Must be able to perform basic life operational functions of standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions

  • Must be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects

  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data and do extensive reading and research

Term of Employment: Ten Months; full benefits package offered with full-time employment.
