Description Position Summary The Behavior Technician (BT) will provide clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols using principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and related developmental disabilities in the clinic, home, community, and school settings. BT will collect data on programs, assist with parent training, and assist supervisors with clinical assessments as needed.

The BT also maintains accurate records, promotes good communication with families, staff, and supervisors, and provides accurate data collection. The BT implements goals and objectives designed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst for the client through completion of assessments and gaining information from families. Compensation $20.50 hourly Essential duties and responsibilities:

Activities include but are not limited to the following: Follow treatment plan and use methods of ABA to decrease challenging behaviors of individuals. Provide direct care in one-on-one and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training.

Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols. Collect and maintain data on academic, social, and behavioral goals. Assist with educational, social, and behavioral assessment of individuals.

Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with the individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols. Assist supervisor with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments and in preparing individual materials as instructed. Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding individual progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

Complete all required documentation according to the Center's program regulations. Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Center's culture, values, and mission. Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Center regulations and operating standards.

Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines. Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related Software. Applies and actively shares knowledge, expertise, and best practices with team. Behavior supports the mission, core values and objectives of the Center.

Displays flexibility and openness in daily work and encourages others to stay open to change and improvement. Accepts and readily adapts to changing priorities, new ideas, strategies, procedures, and methods. Presents well-considered alternatives when making recommendations.

Represents the Center by displaying a respectful and caring manner. Addresses all concerns in a timely and efficient manner and reports any complaints to their immediate supervisor. Complies with quality assurance, OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, safety and other policies set forth.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or AAS Degree in Human Services or related field preferred Minimum of one-year experience in a program or setting supporting persons with developmental disabilities preferred. Understanding of the characteristics of persons with autism, behavior management, and physical aggression of person with autism and cognitive delays preferred Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel) This position may have regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office of for People with Developmental Disabilities), OMH (Office of Mental Health), or OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services). Must have a valid New York State Driver's License WORK ENVIRONMENT/HAZARDS The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimal risk of chemicals used in cleaning. Job related tasks involved exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, or the potential for skin or mucous membrane contact from spills or splashes of these substances.

May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at The Kelberman Center. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions while traveling to homes/clinic for scheduled sessions. OSHA Exposure Category 1 PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the position and have fluency in the English language.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Ability to lift and/or assist individuals and the ability to meet the physical requirements of the specific job Ability to walk, bend, squat; Climb and descend stairs. Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Must be able to move and react quickly. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted. Must be able to manage and cope in sometimes stressful situations.
