  • The Supervisor II of Behavioral Health Services provides oversight in the management of daily operations of the Behavioral Health Services program, which includes managing staffing, administering an approved budget, and providing direct supervision and support to an assigned group of Behavioral Instructional Specialists. The position requires the ability to provide guidance to direct reports that ensures delivery of behavioral health services to students with emotional and behavioral challenges. The Supervisor II of Behavioral Health Services also establishes collaborative relationships with families, campus staff, administrators, community agencies, and other relevant stakeholders across the district to offer guidance on special education laws and policies.

  • Oversee the management of daily operational issues of the Behavioral Health Services program and assist in solving any related issues.

  • Supervise assigned behavior specialists to ensure coordination and implementation of services to students with emotional and behavioral challenges.

  • Monitor staff activities by managing campus assignments, reviewing caseloads, tracking productivity, and assuring quality of implementation/documentation of interventions.

  • Interview, hire, train, and appraise staff.

  • Develop, submit, and administer an approved budget aligned with department goals and program needs.

  • Coordinate and track materials/technology inventory to ensure that the specialists have the supplies and equipment needed to complete their work.

  • Participate in activities related to the Texas Behavior Support Initiative, including district wide training and physical restraint as needed.

  • Comply with all state and federal rules, laws, policies, and guidelines related to special education.

  • Consult with campus staff, administrators, parents and other stakeholders on special educations rules and regulations, programming, and instructional/behavioral supports.

  • Participate in behavior instructional specialist activities on an as needed basis which include implementing coaching and feedback model of support to campus staff; conducting interviews and/or observations; reviewing evaluation and mental health records; creating behavior intervention plans (BIPs); monitoring data collection/BIP implementation progress; and developing plans of support to address campus needs.

  • Represent the BHS program in critical ARD meetings and TEA resolution hearings to address concerns involving behavior, to assist in understanding program expectations and/or support recommendations, to de-escalate problem situations, to provide coaching and feedback to campus administrators, and collaborate with stakeholders on recommendations for resolution.

  • Maintain required accountability documentation to document support activities.

  • Develop and conduct training for clinicians, parents, campus staff, and administrators regarding special education laws, behavior, program expectations, progress monitoring, etc.

  • Maintain professional competency by keeping abreast of current trends in evidenced-based interventions, behavior and mental health, ethics, and special education laws.

  • Engage in professional behaviors that reflect integrity, accountability, and moral standards.

  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Master's Degree from an accredited university required; valid Texas licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist preferred; previous Supervisor experience preferred.

  • Valid Texas licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist preferred.

  • Minimum five years leadership experience managing a large organization or department preferred.

  • Experience working with children and youth in a special education setting; experience in an urban school setting and/or in a multicultural education environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of special education principles, theories, and laws (federal and state)

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve logistical and operational problems; make data driven decisions.

  • Ability to manage a budget.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with evidence-based interventions.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic, and a collaborative work style.

  • Effective organizational skills to achieve the goals of the position.

  • Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others and the ability to utilize performance accountability measures.

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
