POSITION: Behavior Interventionist
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and BCBA
COMPENSATION: $25.00-28.00/hour (6 hours/day)

DESCRIPTION: Highly qualified Behavior Intervention with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior supports and/or trauma informed education. The Behavior Interventionist helps coordinate Assessments of Behavior and Behavior Intervention Plan that address students' behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. Behavior Interventionist also provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies and academic support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists teacher and other professional personnel by modeling instructional programming and behavior management strategiesbased on the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis and interventions based on functional analysis behavior.

  • Provides specialized instructional programming and behavior management support to individual students or groups of students that is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and Interventions based on a functional analysis of behavior.

  • Reviews individualized programming and behavior intervention plans with instructional personnel; consults with supervisor or teacher regarding students' progress on IEP goals.

  • Under the general supervision of supervisor, BCBA and/or qualified teachers, provides specialized instruction supporting students acquisition of skills outlined intheir individualized behavioral programming or IEP goals. Assists with selecting and introducing new targets and the monitoring of skill progress by updating graphs or entering data into digital databases.

  • Recognizes and intervenes during behavioral crisis involving aggressive and/or dangerous behaviors to maintain safety of school personnel and student by implementing behavior support plans or District approved emergency interventions, providing 1:1 assistance as needed, communicating with relevant school personnel,and documenting and reporting the crisis as soon as possible to appropriate personnel. Coaches Behavior Interventionist and school personnel during behavioral crisis.

  • Sets up learning areas and prepares materials independently or under the direction of supervisor or teacher for instructional activities; identifiesindividual or group activities to target student goals, and conducts individual and group sessions, updates agenda/schedule for session, and records data as appropriate.

  • Engages in physical and sometimes strenuous activities with students such as running, lifting, toileting, diapering, weight shifting and positioning of students.

  • Operates a variety of instructional media and digital equipment, and at supervisor's or teacher's request, maintains an inventory of educational materials, supplies and equipment.

  • Provides a variety of clerical and supportive tasks assisting the supervisor in maintaining records and files related to student progress.

  • Creates and updates educational and behavioral instructional materials; creates andupdates augmentative and assistive technology to support communication; assistswith educational supports that are low tech or high tech that support vision,hearing and mobility.

  • Participates in specialized professional development training by supervisors or other District personnel related to strategies for working with the behavioral and social needsof students, behavior management techniques and procedures, instructionalprogram and other needs.

  • Under the general supervision of supervisor/manager and/or qualified teachers, provides specialized instruction that reduces problem behaviors and promotes student cooperation and independence in accessing the curriculum in theirprimary educational setting, i.e., the classroom.

  • Supervises students inside and outside the classroom and in the community during supervisor's absence; assists supervisor or other staff members in the supervision of students as required.

  • At the supervisor's discretion, assists with the implementation of assessments and development of appropriate programming or behavioral plans upon completion.

  • Creates graphs from behavioral data, procedure sheets and corresponding data sheets with guidance from a supervisor or teacher.

  • Provides a variety of clerical and supportive tasks. Maintains and monitors the organization and completeness of individual student data binders ensuring appropriate daily data entry and progress on specific targets are updated on probeand acquisition sheets and new targets are being identified in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.A minimum of two (2) years experience preferred in special education or working with children with special needs.

2.Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with students, staff and community.

3.Ability to perform simple clerical work.

4.Ability to make decisions quickly regarding the health and safety of students.

5.Knowledge of positive behavior modification techniques.

6.Knowledge of trauma informed educational practices.

7.Ability to speak clearly and effectively, follow oral and written directions, maintain confidentiality of records and discussions, empathize with the special needs of disabled students, work independently, engage in strenuous physical activities, and react withflexibility to students with learning/behavioral and/or physical disabilities.
