Behavior Interventionist (Part-Time)

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has eight campuses that serve over 3,000 students from pre-K through 12th grade.

Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education or her/his designee, the Behavioral Intervention Aide will implement behavior interventions for the purpose of supporting students in achieving their academic, social, emotional, and behavior goals.


BII will perform a full range of duties, including but not limited to:

  • As part of the student's team, assist in implementing appropriate individualized instructional and behavioral plans and programs for assigned student, making adaptations as necessary under the direction of the School Psychologist or Behaviorist.

  • Adapt general classroom material/methods as appropriate to meet the needs of the assigned student, in consultation with General Education teacher or case manager.

  • Provide instruction to students consistent with the I.E.P. and support from the other team members.

  • Consult, when necessary, with the classroom teachers on appropriate instructional interventions.

  • Work with the Director of Special Education, school psychologist, and teachers to develop and implement inclusionary opportunities.

  • Assist students physically as required, including implementing non-violent crises intervention when necessary.

  • Record data daily on a variety of aspects of students' progress and behavior.

  • Attend and participate in all relevant training sessions, meetings and professional growth activities as requested and/or required

  • Show patience, respect and compassion in working with students.


Must have knowledge of:

  • Appropriate behavior management strategies.

  • Good understanding of standard classroom operations and teaching methods.

Must be able to:

  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with staff, students and parents of diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

  • Carry out behavior plans, goals and objectives.

  • Establish and maintain behavior observation files and logs.

  • Apply appropriate behavior management procedures in working with students at all grade levels.

  • Work confidentially with discretion.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to push, pull, drag, or otherwise move objects.

  • Ability to lift, move, and position students of up to 100 pounds and 12 years of age, with assistance.

  • This type of work requires frequent and continuous standing and walking, for extended periods of time.

Educational requirements:

Applicants who possess the following skills will make the strongest candidates:

  • BA degree in a appropriate discipline

  • 3-5 years of directly related experience or training working with children with special needs

  • Effective record-keeping techniques.

  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

  • Interpersonal skills in using tact, patience and courtesy.

  • Successful experience working with diverse populations with special needs and alternative placements.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English not required but preferred.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certificate, highly desired.

Salary based on experience

Work Hours: 25-29 hrs per week
