The position provides a range of assessment and treatment services to approximately 25 residents with significant intellectual disorders and related developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder, and many with significant behavior disorders and psychiatric diagnoses. Services include providing functional behavior assessments and functional analyses; planning, developing and evaluating training and treatment programs, some of which contain protective and/or restrictive procedures, or the use of medication for behavior management that require due process approval with the human rights committee; providing staff training on training and treatment programs; and participating in interdisciplinary team processes that may include leading discussions using data to guide teams in decisions regarding behavior support planning, training and treatment.

The position performs job duties under appropriate supervisory coordination and clinical supervision. In addition, the Behavior Analyst position is regularly involved in training of direct support and paraprofessional staff. The Behavior Analyst position must have knowledge of the principles and practices of Applied Behavior Analysis including general behavior assessment and ethical standards in behavior analysis; knowledge and skills to conduct indirect and direct functional behavior assessments in order to develop training and treatment programs for clients; knowledge and behavior-analytic skills in the training and treatment of clients with intellectual and developmental disorders; knowledge and behavior-analytic skills in training direct support and other staff to implement data collection, training and treatment procedures as part of support plans with client; and knowledge and skills to analyze data, write and revise training and treatment programs for clients. Professional development opportunities include monthly professional reading group, Case Formulation and Clinical Case Review, and a variety of Teaching and Training Group Sessions.

Salary Grade MH16; Recruitment Range $57,712.00 - $95,224.00

About J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center's Psychology Department

The JIRDC Psychology Department has a longstanding history supporting applied behavior analysis to improve the lives of our clients and staff, including both everyday clinical skills and participation in applied research. Staff from JIRDC's Psychology Department played an active role in the founding and continued success of the North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis, NCABA (www.nc-aba.com).

In June of 2018, NC Human Resources notified the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center that a state position titled "Behavior Analyst" had been created that would allow for the recruitment of applicants with specific skills in behavior analysis that had completed or were being trained and supervised by acceptable professionals.

Psychology staff are assigned to residences and work as members of interdisciplinary teams. The Behavior Analyst positions work within a department of I7 clinicians and an administrative support staff. The Psychology Department has monthly meetings of staff to review current assessment and treatment literature in behavior analysis and intellectual disorders and to review individual cases before the clinical staff.

Master's Degree in Psychology or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
