The Bed Control Clerk (BCC) participates in the admission process to ensure the needs and desires of the patient, the physician, the hospital, and the staff are addressed and met. The BCC collaborates with the nursing units, admitting offices, housekeeping and physicians on initial room assignments and in-house transfers.

The BCC assists with admission and transfers from all locations internal and external to the hospital. He/she maintains records and admission logs. Considerable tact and communication skills are utilized for this position.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

Initiates the admission process, making room assignments, assisting with transfers from other hospitals and departments, assisting within house transfers, and assigns rooms for preadmit patients.

Initiates plans to solve identified problems related to the admission process and to make improvements in that area and provides input to the Registration Supervisor related to Bed Control issues.

Maintains appropriate record keeping for reservations admission's log, room availability, discharges, and statistics logs.

Demonstrates responsibility for own competency, mandatories and annual performance evaluation by maintaining all personal data up-to-date. Meets educational requirements for new programs, procedures and technology. Prepares for the performance evaluation conference by submitting completed skills list, education attendance documents, and self-evaluation form one month prior to due date.

Organizes and prioritizes duties throughout the shift.

Performs other duties as assigned for the benefit of the organization.

Education: High School or equivalent

Experience: Previous Office experience in healthcare required.

Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: CRT, copying machine, fax machine, personal computer, telephone

Specialized Skills:
Typing 35 WPM, computer literate, good written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact with the public and multidisciplinary departments.

Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to prioritize and deal with interruptions. Excellent telephone manner and skills.
