The mission of Beat the StreetsBaltimore (BTS) is to provide disadvantaged youth with a positive environment that nurtures physical and mental development through wrestling, mentoring and tutoring programs. Our goal is to develop programs throughout the Baltimore area's underserved communities. The BTS organization was founded in 2012, partnering with the city school system to organize amateur wrestling programs as a 'hook' to engage participants in their academic careers and to steer disadvantaged students toward tutoring and mentoring opportunities.

BTS utilizes after-school programs, community programs and a hybrid summer academy to provides a safe haven and a helping hand to promising youth in need of after-school activities. Year-round intervention programs and academic enrichment services help underrepresented youth graduate from high school and transition to college.Programmatically, BTS activities stimulate values in youth to develop a high sense of integrity, confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, respect, leadership, solid work ethic and a competitive spirit. Infused with a balance of academic development and competitive wrestling, BTS aims to prepare youth to enter higher education while becoming highly competitive wrestlers.

BTS targets students, ages 7-18, that attend Baltimore City public schools, providing them year-round programming, including after-school sessions and summer camps. The proposed VISTA project Beating the Streets of Baltimore will increase the capacity and sustainability of the BTS organization. Strategic VISTA-led efforts will help ensure the stability and continued success of the organization through partnership development and the creation and introduction of systems and processes for effective and efficient volunteer training and management, areas currently in need of support, despite the quality and effectiveness of the programming. For more information, please visit our website at!
