Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) invites applications for the position of Youth Development Professional at our local city high school. The Youth Development Professional is responsible for providing fun and engaging programming to high school aged youth. Hours during the school year are typically high school class hours. Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate is able to assist youth academically as well as provide mentorship during school hours.


BA/BS required.

  • Or a minimum of four years or more experience working with children in a group setting, camp counselor experience a plus.

  • Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education, health, character development and leadership.

  • Must be a team player and a self-starter.

  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.

  • A high degree of independence, flexibility, self-motivation, and creativity.

  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.

  • Ability to organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.


  • Promotes and stimulates program participation among members.

  • Provides guidance and role modeling to members.

  • Participates in new member orientation process.

  • Effectively implements and administers programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.

  • Monitors and evaluates programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the facility at all times.

  • Participates in club-wide events.

  • Prepares activity reports.

  • Delivers programming, including group activities, high yield learning activities, guest speakers, and field trips.

  • Effectively completes assessments of programs and program participants using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools.

  • Facilitates and assists with coordination of special events and other youth-oriented activities.

  • Effectively engages parents through outreach and volunteer activities.

  • Reviews current programs and recommends changes based on performance data, member input and overall outcomes.

  • Inputs and gathers data, as appropriate, in the membership management and/or outcomes management system, works with other staff to implement special projects.

  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment for all members.

  • Works effectively with supervisor, other staff, members, parents, and community leaders and organizations to provide exemplary services to youth.

Required education:

Bachelors Degree Required In one of the following;

  • Public Health

  • Sociology

  • Urban Studies

  • Psychology

  • Public Health

  • Human Services

  • Social Work

  • Women's Studies

  • Human Development and Family Studies

  • Youth/Family Services Administration

  • Mental Health and Human Services

  • working professionally with children in a group setting: 4 years

  • educator: 1 year

  • camp counselor: 1 year

Required license or certification:

  • CPR/AED/First Aid

VIEW JOBS 9/24/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-12-23T00:00 PURPOSE OF POSITION This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The incumbent will provide sports officiating, instruction, supervision, and support for members, participants and guardians of the YMCA sports programs. Incumbent will work together with coaches, staff and other officials to assure that the sports program operates efficiently. The Gateway Region YMCA strictly follows a zero tolerance policy regarding child abuse. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Monitor team sports at the YMCA or off-site locations. 2. Teach the knowledge of the game to youth and adults. 3. Assume responsibility for interpreting the rules, policies and traditions of the game to the sport participants 4. Be a team player that can relate positively to all staff, volunteers and participants 5. Be able to observe participant and fan behavior and respond verbally to health and safety concerns and to deal appropriately with any improper behavior. 6. Organize and manage sport set up, clean up and participate in activities necessary to deliver a quality sports experience. 7. Adjust and operate all sports equipment as applicable including but not limited to baskets, goals, scoreboards, sound systems and any other operation that will contribute to the success of the sports game and league. 8. Contributes to a superior work culture through participation in training and staff meetings to develop leadership, management and technical skills related to sports. 9. Stay current with applicable sport rules and regulations. 10. Show enthusiasm about officiating and teaching the knowledge of the game. 11. Must be able to move into correct position to see plays on the playing field or court. 12. Perform all other duties assigned.
