BCS Cultural Education Specialist - Grand Rapids, MI

Bethany is a refugee resettlement agency in West Michigan. This VISTA member will support the Resettlement and Post-Resettlement programs in providing cultural education to its adult refugee clients.

This member coordinates and facilitates Joint Cultural and Enhanced Cultural Orientation classes based on refugee arrivals and case manager referrals. This member will also increase the capacity of the sponsoring organization to provide virtual cultural education including, but not limited to, mobile Settle In app, WhatsApp, Zoom, and maintaining Bethany's Cultural Education website. Member Duties : 1) Create, implement and sustain Bethany's Joint Cultural Orientation and Enhanced Cultural Orientation program. 2) Develop new cultural education courses and training through developing and maintaining community partner relationships, such as housing or medical service partners, or researching potential new topics themselves. 3) Increase Bethany's capacity to provide virtual cultural education including over WhatsApp, Zoom, Bethany's Cultural Orientation website, and the mobile Settle In app. 4) Support the resettlement and post resettlement team in identifying potential gaps within the work of BCS related to cultural education and self-sufficiency. 5) To increase the local refugee community's ability to resettle and welcome refugees. 6) To educate refugee community leaders on the organization. 7) Support grant research and fundraising efforts related to cultural education.
