BCIT Summer Internship - End User Engineer

We are seeking a motivated End User Engineer Summer Intern to join our End user engineering infrastructure team. As an intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers to provide technical support and assistance to end-users across the organization. You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing end-user devices and but also to delve into the world of data analysis, application packaging and scripting.

As an Intern at The Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology on the End User Engineering team, our program will:

Provide opportunities for secondary/higher education students to serve as technical interns within the government industry and work alongside experienced IT professionals in an increasingly challenging and fast paced atmosphere.

Interns will obtain feedback from their managers throughout the program, as well as assistance with managing roadblocks along the way. Beginning with virtual orientation, interns will benefit from various aspects of BCIT's culture.

• 1 on 1 meetings with the Department Intern Manager

• Weekly Chew & Chats Fridays (virtual games & exciting ice breakers)

• BCIT All Staff Meetings

• Learning Opportunities in Field of Interest (When Available)

The BCIT End User Engineering Internship may include the following areas:

• Collaborate with experienced engineers to provide technical support and assistance to end-users across the organization.

• Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing end-user devices and systems, including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.

• Learn to build application packages for deployment across the organization, ensuring seamless integration and user experience.

• Explore scripting languages and methodologies to automate routine tasks and streamline processes within the End User Engineering Infrastructure Team.

• Assist in the setup, deployment, and configuration of end-user devices, ensuring adherence to best practices and security standards.

• Contribute to the documentation of technical processes, procedures, and knowledge base articles to enhance team efficiency and knowledge sharing.

• Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to end-user support, application packaging, and scripting.

• Collaborate with the infrastructure team to implement and enforce IT security policies and procedures.

• Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving end-user support services and processes.

Position Requirements:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Strong interest in IT infrastructure, end-user support, and technology.

• Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications.

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Prior experience with IT support or customer service is a plus but not required.

Internship Requirements:

• Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior, or have graduated from a Maryland higher education institution

• Graduated from a Maryland high school and are currently enrolled in or graduated from a career technical training program.

• Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
