Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Practice proper laboratory procedures in compliance with Corporate HS&E policy and maintain a safe lab environment

  • Conduct benchmarking efforts and update coating SOPs with existing compounds

  • Apply DOE principles and experiment new formulations and coatings with R&D materials

  • Establish standard characterization procedures for slurries and electrode coatings

  • Maintain detailed tracking record of experiments and performance observations

  • Assemble prototype batteries and perform electrical/electrochemical measurements

  • Conduct post-mortem analysis and investigate potential cell failure mechanism

  • Establish solid understandings of electrode design and serve as the formulation liaison for the team

  • Provide instructions and technical backgrounds to Analytical Specialists and demonstrate ability to design novel characterization methodologies for R&D purposes

  • Prepare weekly report and take the initiative to discuss results with the manager and the group

  • Conduct routine maintenance of formulation and coating tools and troubleshoot characterization equipment

  • Mentor battery group technician and interns

Qualification

  • Preferably has a degree in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering or related scientific background

  • BS or MS with minimum of 8 years of experience and knowledge in formulation development for batteries or other energy devices

  • PhD with minimum of 3 years of experience in electrode formulation development

  • Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to combine theory with empirical observation

  • Fluent in rheology techniques, coating characterization techniques and with experience in setting up battery testing experiments

  • Experience in glovebox operation and ability to conduct experiments in a dry room environment

Job Competencies

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Familiar with both aqueous and non-aqueous formulation systems

  • Familiar with both bench top and roll to roll coating and calendering tools

  • Experience with the cell assembly, cell testing and data analysis processes

  • Hand on experience in materials characterization techniques, such as IR, Raman, SEM, XRD, optical microscope is a plus

  • Knowledge in both inorganic and polymer based solid electrolyte development and testing is a plus

  • Experience in electrolyte development is a plus

  • Experience in lithium metal battery development and lithium metal anode research is a plus

  • Good understanding of battery cathode and anode chemistry is a must

  • Able to prioritize and manage time effectively

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical jargons to plain language for a broader audience

  • High attention to detail, accuracy and precision

Job Description Responsibilities * Practice proper laboratory procedures in compliance with Corporate HS&E policy and maintain a safe lab environment * Develop test protocols and compile technical scripts with battery testing equipment * Conduct electrical/electrochemical measurements at both component and cell level * Implement validation methods to ensure the integrity of test data * Collect and analyze battery test data and draft reports as necessary * Update test procedure and maintain experiment loggings * Interact with team members and serve as the battery testing liaison for the department * Conduct routine maintenance of lab tools and troubleshoot battery group equipment * Coordinate instruments installation and support test infrastructure improvement * Mentor battery group technicians and interns Qualification * Preferably has a degree in materials chemistry, electrical engineering, materials science and engineering or other related scientific disciplines * BS with a minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical/electrochemical testing * MS or PhD with a minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical/electrochemical testing * Fluent in electrical/electrochemical evaluation techniques such as conductivity measurement, four probes technique, cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and battery cycling methods * Familiar with glovebox operation and battery testing equipment, such as Maccor or Arbin Job Competencies * Strong organizational and project management skills * Good understanding of lithium ion battery chemistry is a plus * Experience in lithium metal battery development and evaluation is a plus * Demonstrated proficiency with cell testing methodologies, data analysis and interpretation * Strong expertise in electrochemical interface analysis is a plus * Able to prioritize and manage time effectively * Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical jargons to plain language for a broader audience * High attention to detail, accuracy and precision Choose to unlock your full POTENTIAL.
