The Battery Data Analysis Engineer works with the energy storage team to support battery testing, validation, and development activities related to the family of next-generation xEV FCA powertrains and batteries. The candidate will take a leading role in analyzing, mining, processing, and tracking the increasing amount of battery and cell test data generated during the course of product development, testing, and validation. The candidate will be involved in multiple vehicle programs and deal with a broad range of data, i.e. cell level, pack-level, vehicle-level, and fleet-level. The ideal candidate is expected to be highly analytical, and have experience in data analysis/processing.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Process and analyze battery data such as battery/cell performance data, drive cycle testing, cell characterization tests (HPPC, OCV), usage history statistics, battery management system (BMS) functions, battery state estimation SOX validation for state-charge (SOC), state-of-power (SOP) limits, and battery state of health (SOH) estimation

  • Develop core software histograms requirements for collecting the battery and cell characteristics

  • Support data regression, statistical analysis, and parameter fitting functions related to battery/cell data, voltage/temperature response modes, and age empirical modeling

  • Perform target deep-dive analysis of FCA (historical) battery data to support root-cause analysis of battery related issues

  • Deliver reports to department engineers on battery test and analysis activities

  • Generate automated graphical test reports to support validation, analysis, and verification of battery software functions such as battery state estimation, cell balancing, and sensor measurement processing

  • Coordinate with FCA/supplier battery/cell/HIL test labs for characterization and validation testing activities

  • Provide as needed battery data analysis/processing to support production program design release activities

  • Perform as needed data collection activities using software tools such as CANalyzer, INCA, and Control Tec

  • Interface with supplier/FCA cell/battery specialists to optimize battery data generation, collection, and analysis workflow

  • Support development of appropriate battery usage history statistics and their online recording

  • Constructively contribute to research and development activities related to battery/cell modeling and testing for automotive applications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited university

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data analysis/processing/mining or an advance degree

  • Knowledge of parameter fitting, optimization, and data regression methods

  • Excellent MATLAB scripting skills or other languages e.g. Octave, Python

  • Effective graphical presentation, interpersonal, and time management skills to engage development and testing teams/personnel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Applied Science in Electrical, Control, Chemical, Mechanical, Computer or Software Engineering or a Masters in Computer Science, or related discipline with Battery Management System experience at an accredited university

  • Working knowledge of battery management systems mechatronics and software functions, battery/cell modeling and characterization methods

  • General knowledge of xEV vehicle and powertrains

  • Expertise in statistical analysis, signal processing, simulations, regression, optimization, machine learning, big data analysis

  • Experience with battery/cell lab test equipment and xEV vehicle testing and DVP&R procedures

  • Research and development experience to creatively support innovation projects and university research collaborations

The Vehicle Dynamics Virtual Analysis Engineer will support multiple programs with analysis/optimization of suspension/steering sub-system kinematics and compliance; analytical assessments of full vehicle steady state and transient handling behavior; and calculation of associated component loads. Participation in development/implementation of associated processes is also required. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited or equivalent program * Five years of engineering experience * Three years of experience in chassis and multi-body and/or vehicle dynamics simulation with ADAMS/Car or CarSim * Familiarity with concepts as well as test and simulation techniques associated with suspension/steering system kinematics/compliance as well as vehicle ride/handling * Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate activities with the extended team (Chassis Release Engineering, Advance Packaging, Vehicle Integration, Vehicle Dynamics, Scientific Labs, manufacturing, suppliers, etc.) * Modeling and enablers development for transient handling and SAE J2807 trailer tow requirements * Experience with ADAMS based ride models for low frequency ride, high frequency shake, impact harshness, along with brake judder, lead drift pull, shimmy and wander * Experience with preparing VI Car real time models for driving simulator * Experience in vehicle evaluations and tuning suspension components Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree from an ABET accredited university * Ability to interact with CAD systems, like NX for input to simulation models * Ability to develop custom routines (Visual Basic, ADAMS command files, ADAMS/Car templates, Matlab, etc.,) to support process enhancement and standardization Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
