Battery Cell Engineer

Mitra Chem is a growth-stage startup developing sustainable Li-ion battery cathodes in the heart of Silicon Valley. Our high-throughput acceleration platform shortens the lab-to-production timeline by >90% through vertically integrated process optimization and cutting-edge artificial intelligence applications. Our iron-rich cathodes are industry proven drivers of EV, ESS, and consumer electronics applications, and our team of industry leaders is developing a robust supply chain and manufacturing pipeline to deliver Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) qualified cathodes to our customers.

We are looking for Battery Cell Engineers to stand-up our cell design, prototyping and testing lab infrastructure. You will develop Li-ion cell designs for Mitra Chem's cathodes, develop performance and test specifications and qualify our products.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of Mitra Chem's cell building and testing facility.

• Research and source equipment for fabrication of coin and pouch cells.

• Lead the cell design and optimization effort within Mitra Chem, and oversee techs.

• Define Mitra Chem's testing and qualification process to screen cathode designs, root-cause failure modes and quantify degradation behavior of batteries.

• Work with data/ML scientists to develop early prediction algorithms to assess cell performance.

Qualifications:

• Hands-on industry experience in the design and production of Li-ion cells at R&D or pilot scale.

• Experience with cell building equipment, cell design optimization and manufacturing processes.

• Familiarity with cell testing equipment, cycling tests, impedance spectroscopy and OEM qualification procedures.

• Analysis of electrochemical cycling data.

• Experience with cell qualification for different designs, formulations and applications.

• Solid understanding of the electrochemistry of batteries and physics of degradation.

The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:

• The estimated base salary range for this role is $90,000-$111,000.

• Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in a bonus and equity plan.
