The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is a federally funded five-year discretionary grant under the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education, aimed at assisting migrant and seasonal agricultural workers and their immediate family members in earning their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
HEP Tutors are tasked with providing tutoring in Math, Science, Writing, Reading, and Social Studies, all pertinent to the Spanish and English HSE exams.
Tutors work flexible hours during weekdays (Monday
Tutors Must:
Be familiar with the objectives, policies, and guidelines of HEP
Attend student, staff, and tutor meetings
Complete mandatory UNM and departmental trainings
Assist in coordinating workshops, orientations, and events
Be willing to learn and execute all tutoring duties
Perform miscellaneous job-related tasks as assigned
Primary Duties:
Provide tutoring and mentoring to HEP participants
Tutor program participants individually and/or in groups
Develop and prepare lesson plans for tutoring sessions
Maintain communication with assigned participants regarding tutoring and instructional needs
Keep tutor logs for each tutoring session
Report tutoring and instructional needs/concerns of assigned participants to HEP staff
Prepare tutoring reports for HEP staff
Ensure the instructional needs of assigned participants are met by regularly monitoring student progress files.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications (Minimum)
Bilingual in Spanish and English.
Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
Work-study eligible and awarded.
Passed Math 1220 with a B or higher.
Experience working with adult learners.
Familiar with tutoring in Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Reading, and Writing.
