POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bariatric Surgical Clinical Reviewers chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the ACS Bariatric Data Registry Platform. This task is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry of 100 percent of bariatric procedures performed at the center in the ACS Bariatric Data Registry Platform. The BSCR works closely with the members of the bariatric and general surgery departments to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as may be identified. The BSCR supports the organizational vision and mission.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School/GED required

  • Bachelors degree preferred. Ability to complete all training modules and pass the certification examination with a minimum score of 90 percent is required.

  • RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RN, or BSN preferred but not required.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital surgery department or surgery clinic or with clinical research or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required.

  • Ability to build relationships and gain alignment for clinical support and be able to articulate questions to receive an appropriate level of support from superiors and peers.

  • Ability to interact with all members of the bariatric surgical team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Computer and internet experience required. A familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Office products is essential for success in this position (Word and Excel experience is required; PowerPoint and Access experiences is preferred).

  • Database data entry and/or management experience preferred.

  • Basic statistical knowledge preferred.

  • Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.

  • Able to adjust and/or troubleshoot monitoring equipment, and computer equipment.

  • Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.

  • High degree of competency/experience in general.

  • Requires good communication and organizational skills.

Such duties include but are not limited to: Scheduling in office and in hospital procedures, making sure necessary authorizations have been obtained, data entry into the facility computer system and implementing/participating in the development of new diagnostic testing or programs. JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: * Two (2) years continuous experience in a busy healthcare office with at least one (1) year insurance verification experience (required), and 6 months-1 year worker’s compensation experience is preferred. * Must have Excel, Microsoft suite computer experience and must be able to learn department IS system * Must have excellent customer service skills. * High degree of competency/experience in general. * Medical Terminology, ICD Codes, CPT Codes, HCPCS codes, and Modifier knowledge preferred. * Able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly and spell correctly. * Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment. * Requires working with frequent interruptions. * Must project a professional image. JOB REQUIREMENTS: POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: * High School graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferred. * Completion of CNA program, Medical Assistant Program, PCA or like program preferred. * Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues. * Excellent organizational skills are necessary. * Good written and verbal communication skills required. * Ability to read, write and speak English * Good understanding of insurance benefits and medical terminology. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, working knowledge of Excel required. * Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians * Prefer previous physician office or hospital experience.
