This Full time position is located in Reserve LA; however please expect receiving calls from a 952 area code in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.

The purpose of this position is to complete duties associated with the barge cover process. Individuals in this position are responsible for the effective and efficient handling of barge covers, with minimal supervision. Interacts on a regular basis with customers, plant operators, supervisors or other personnel.

As a Barge Cover Handler, you will:

  • Train and operate equipment associated with barges: including hoist systems, ropes and cables.

  • Perform duties to complete removal of barge covers and upon completion of unloading, cover the barge. This includes: identification of potential hazards, equipment monitoring, manually pushing and pulling of barge covers, physically throwing chains, and communication with the panel operator.

  • Perform housekeeping duties in respective work and break areas, as well as keeping barges clean: including sweeping, shoveling, and hosing down.

  • Train to be knowledgeable in procedures for bobcat operator, lead person and leg operator.

  • Work outdoors in a dusty environment, with exposure to varying temperatures and uneven/slippery work surfaces.

  • Control traffic through department and ensure that all visitors follow safety rules.

  • Troubleshoot problems as required.

  • Cargill requires employees be a minimum of 18 years old to work in a production facility.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be willing and able to work rotating 8 or 12 hour shifts, including nights, overtime, weekends, holidays, and additional hours beyond regularly scheduled shift to cover vacancies.

  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, etc., to work in elevated areas of the plant.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop and work in confined spaces

  • Must be able to read and write english

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach and work on irregular surfaces.

  • Must be willing and able to work in inclement conditions and extreme temperatures.

  • Must be able to operate heavy equipment


  • Forklift certified

  • Prior experience in production related work

  • Basic computer skills

The individual will perform the duties in a safe and productive manner. Key Job Activities: 1) Unload waste from incoming vehicles. Separates non-autoclavable waste to be incinerated. 2) Stage waste on conveyor system or properly stack waste for scanning in the Bio track system. 3) Scan waste into the Bio track system for proper recordkeeping purposes. 4) Load autoclave bins or incinerator hopper with waste for processing. 5) Place re-usable containers on tub wash line for decontamination. 6) Operates tub wash unit insuring the wash unit is operating properly. Removes clean tubs from wash unit, inspects tubs and stacks for loading onto assigned vehicle for re-use. 7) Operates tub wash sprayer for oversized reusable tubs insuring the unit is operating properly. Inspects tubs and stacks for loading onto assigned vehicle for re-use. 8) Decontaminates vehicles cargo-carrying portion, reloads assigned re-usable tubs and insures cargo-carrying portion of vehicle does not have free liquid on the floor. Informs plant supervisor the vehicle is ready to be moved from dock area. 9) Insures housekeeping issues, e.g., spills cleaned up, floor is dry, and debris not on floor, etc., are addressed immediately. 10) Assists in other areas of the plant operation as directed.
