Proper Hospitality is seeking a Barback at Montauk Yacht Club, a 107-room luxury property set to debut within The Collective. Spanning 35 acres on Montauk's Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities.
As a Barback, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our upscale bar and lounge areas. You will assist the bartenders and other staff in providing exceptional service to our guests. Your attention to detail, dedication and teamwork will contribute to creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for our patrons.
Responsibilities
Assists bartenders in all aspects of service
Restock all ice in wells
Competent in all coffee drink preparation from espresso machine
Clean and polish all glassware and stemware behind bar - restock as necessary
Clean all liquor, display and speed rail bottles daily including pour spouts and face bottles
Proficient in recipes for juices, purees and mixes - maintains and dates set pars of these fresh perishables
Cuts and maintains pars of all bar fruit and garnishes
Cleans and maintains all reach in coolers behind bar including daily temperature checks
Cleans all bar mats
Maintain and stock to par all bar paper needs - i.e. napkins, picks, straws, and coasters
Stock and maintain par of all liquor, wine, beer bottles
Bus dirty glassware from the patio to the kitchen dishwasher
Restock glassware from the kitchen dishwasher to the main bar and the patio bar
Put away in proper labeled places all beverage and beverage consumable deliveries
Help maintain perpetual inventory
Understand all functions of POS, including ordering and payments
Take orders of food and beverage for guests seated in the bar area
Process payments of guests' checks when needed
Knows food and beverage recipes for discussion with guest
Set bar top for food service
Maintain pars of flatware, stemware, glassware and china behind bar at all times
Change kegs as needed
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Polish all metal and glass in behind bar and in bar area of dining room
Act as "concierge" for guests as needed - calling cabs, directions or reservations
Escort every guest to every destination (i.e. bathrooms)
Establishes a relationship with local businesses, concierges, and return guests - always being the person to recognize a guest and call them by name if possible
Do whatever is necessary to take care of the guest, and make them a return guest
Skills/Knowledge Required
Must possess a positive attitude
Must be service-oriented
Must be a team player
Knowledge of the practices within the Food & Beverage/Hospitality profession
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
Qualification Standards
Education: High school graduate or equivalent education preferred
Experience: Over 2 years previous experience in a similar position preferred
Licenses or Certificates: Serv Safe Preferred
