Summary/Objective

The phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples using venipuncture or capillary techniques in assigned clinic location.

Essential Job Duties

• Provides an appropriate environment for patient care by maintaining the patient area in an orderly manner and maintaining neatness of the work environment.

• Consistently follows laboratory policy regarding verification of patient identification prior to obtaining specimen.

• Ensures specimens are appropriately labeled with patient identifiers, date and time of collection and initials.

• Utilizes standard precautions to minimize the potential for exposure. Utilizes appropriate safety precautions in all procedures to promote patient comfort.

• Maintains awareness of current operational policies and procedures which impact on position responsibilities.

• Ensures lab charges are completed and accurate on a daily basis either in the computer and/or on paper as indicated in the designated clinic.

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent

1-3 years of related experience.
