Zingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Dishwasher
to work with our team to create hand crafted, artisan pastries to be enjoyed all over the country!
What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?
8 hours shifts between the hours of 5PM-1AM
Full-time, average work week of 40 hours
Full availability end of October, November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months)
Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Scaling (measuring) and preparing ingredients which could include: cutting brownies, shredding carrots and cheddar, cracking eggs, separating whites and yolks etc.
Washes all pots, pans, baking sheets and all other tools and equipment used for pastry basking utilizing automatic dishwashing machines and 3 compartment sink
Organizes any unwashed dishes and prioritizes as needed
Keeps dish area organized, clean and tidy throughout shift
Mops floors and cleans out drains and drain covers
Loads and unloads dish machines
Puts away clean, dry dishes away in the appropriate places
Gives great service to all staff at all times
Maintain the 2 machines by changing water at least every 4 hours on LVO, and 1 hour on small machine.
Recycle and compost scraps and boxes
Live and uphold the Zingerman's Guiding Principles and all of Zingerman's Recipes
Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respect
Follow all food safety and HACCP guidelines including logging water temperatures and proper PPM for chemicals in dish room.
Work safely around hot ovens, heavy equipment and sharp utensils
Work in a clean and organized fashion
Take direction from multiple leaders
Communicates effectively within the department and Bakehouse
Complete detailed training requirements that can take up to 1.5 years
Attend and participate in department and business huddles (meetings)
Able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shift
Comfortable standing, lifting and bending for duration of a 5 hour shift
Comfortable with repetitive motion, with high levels of coordination, mobility, and dexterity.
Success Patterns and Desired Characteristics:
Commercial dishwashing experience preferred
Knife skills a plus
Experience in mass production a plus
Must be able to understand numbers and number relationships (i.e. decimal points, fractions)
Passion for great food and great service

Who are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafes and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.
Where are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.
Who are we hiring?
The Pastry Kitchen is looking for a full-time dishwasher. Shifts are around 8 hours between 5PM- 1AM. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and holidays. Experience working with food is required. We are looking for individuals who consider themselves active and effective followers.
What does the job pay?
Starting pay is between $11-12.50 per hour, negotiable based on experience.
