Perform allpre-trip responsibilities including: obtainingand reviewing driver itinerary, moving tractors to the loading dock to attachthe preloaded trailers, verify freight on truck and verify required trailertemperatures, and performing pre-trip safety check inspections of trucks andtrailers according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Drive to vendorlocations and company drop-off sites and deliver products according topredetermined routes and stay within DOT hours of service (HOS) regulations. Use electronic time keeping system to log intime at customer site.
Visually survey Vendorand Company distribution centers during the approach to determine hazards.
Return tractor and trailer to distributioncenter when route is completed.
Perform all post-trip responsibilities: unloading damaged goods and customer returnsand completing paperwork as necessary; performing safety checks on the truckand trailer; fuel (as required by the division); unhooking and securingtrailer; parking and securing tractor and hand truck; completing Department ofTransportation (DOT) logs (electronic or manual as required) and companyvehicle maintenance reports (DVIR) and reconciling these with the appropriatecompany representative as required.
Attend allrequired company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and companypolicies.
Follow distribution center shift times and continue until the work iscompleted within DOT HOS regulations. Some Holiday, Saturday, Sunday, andovernight deliveries may be required.
Must satisfactorily complete all company mandatedtrainings and assessments
Education/Training: High SchoolDiploma/GED preferred.
Must be able toread, write and communicate in English as it relates to the job and to thesafety regulations. Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)preferred for instances when driver may be called to do Delivery Driver job.
Must have a valid Commercial DriversLicense (CDL), Class A issued by the state of legal residence with thenecessary endorsements and be DOT qualified. Double Endorsement Licensepreferred.
Minimum six months over the roadcommercial driving experience required or three months with a beveragedelivery company or as a foodservice delivery representative required. Experiencedelivering food products preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Mustbe able to use, or learn to use, all equipment, global positioning systems(GPS) i.e.
XATA, POD, and tools used to perform the job. Mustbe able to perform all job functions safely. Must be able to work the scheduled/assigned times and required overtimefor the position.
Must know/have abilityto learn material safety data sheet information regarding all material usedwithin the scope of the work. Must beable to perform coupling procedures for the Tractor/Trailer. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must successfully complete the DOT writtenexamination for drivers and pass a controlled substance abuse screening test. Must be able to work in extreme weatherconditions, including applying tire chains if needed. Must adhere to all safety practices andcompany policies.
No more than two convictions in the pastthree year period for traffic violations. No more than one of these maybe a serious (as defined by DOT) violation or result of an accident - companyor private vehicle; No DUI convictions within past three years, regardless oftype of vehicle operated; no driver's license suspension within past threeyears (insurance and overweight tickets are excluded); and no termination byprevious employer for failure to comply with safety regulations or for accidentinvolvement.
