As a VR Backend Engineer working within the Social VR Team at Facebook, you'll be a key driver for creating the connective tissue between emergent Social VR experiences and the immense power of the Facebook network, enabling social virtual reality experiences that will define the future of online social interaction. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with expert knowledge of Facebook core technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and implement technical solutions to a variety of Social VR features as it relates to the Facebook infrastructure, such as data persistence, efficiently storing and fetching user content, and supporting new VR-centric content types

  • Identify opportunities to share technology across teams

  • Partner with product visionaries to deliver innovative VR experiences

  • Evangelize technical solutions, frameworks, and best practices across the team and org as it relates to interacting with Facebook infrastructure and services

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as an engineer building product features with core FB technologies, including PHP/Hack, GraphQL, and EntSchemas

  • Experience partnering with internal and external teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Virtual reality experience (Rift, Vive, Gear VR, etc.)

  • C# or other typed/structured programming language experience

  • Understanding of runtime performance and memory use tradeoffs, even in garbage collected environments

  • Unity 3D experience

  • Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments

As a VR Systems Engineer working within the Social VR Team at Facebook, you'll drive a team responsible for the foundation systems enabling social virtual reality experiences that will define the future of online social interaction. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a games industry or other 3D interactive technology background. Responsibilities * Prioritize application health and performance to influence the wider product engineering team * Implement application runtime systems of high value to the application and team as a whole * Identify problematic areas of existing functionality and tools and architect/implement new systems to replace them * Identify opportunities to share technology across teams * Partner with product visionaries to deliver innovative VR experiences * Evangelize technical solutions, frameworks, and best practices across the team and org Minimum Qualifications * 5+ years work experience as an engineer on games or other 3D interactive products * Experience shipping multiple 3D interactive products across various platforms * Direct experience building products that involve most of the following technologies: Realtime networked interactivity, 3D rendering and shaders, 3D application performance and quality tools and tech, 3D & 2D UI/UX frameworks * Demonstrated experience partnering with internal and external teams to incorporate their innovations and vice versa * C++ and C# programming experience * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field Preferred Qualifications * Virtual reality experience (Rift, Vive, Gear VR, etc.) * Experience with Windows, Android, and game console programming experience * Unity 3D experience * Thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments Facebook Menlo Park CA
