GHC is seeking a talented, dedicated, equity-minded, full-time tenure-track faculty member to teach and lead the Bachelor of Applied Science Teacher Education, K-8 program. The position is responsible for establishing educational and professional pathways for students, as well as expanding and promoting the Bachelor of Applied Science Teacher Education program. Additional faculty responsibilities include academic student advising, outcomes assessment, committee work, community outreach, program alignment with Professional Educator Standards Board standards, and other duties as assigned.

This full-time, tenure-track faculty position begins September 16, 2024. In addition, there is an opportunity for a separate contract for prep work in the summer and to prepare for our accreditation visit. The successful candidate is expected to participate actively in affairs of the Social Science, the college, and the community.

The placement on the salary schedule for 174 Day Contract will be determined by education and experience at the time of hire. Initial placement of faculty shall be no higher than 5 years of service. Grays Harbor College has an excellent benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, primary and supplemental retirement programs and long-term disability insurance. Full-time faculty will also receive 1 day of sick leave per month and 5 days of personal leave days a year.

Faculty positions at Grays Harbor College have been designated as bargaining unit positions represented by the Grays Harbor College Federation of Teachers, Local 4984. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours that allow students to meet and engage with faculty.

  • Advise students on academic plans and support services as relevant.

  • Consistent student communication and timely feedback.

  • Care about student success and collaborate on strategies to facilitate success for underrepresented populations, including support to struggling students.

  • Participate in student education and career development through advising, guided pathways activities, and high-impact practices like community outreach and student internships.

  • Maintain and submit accurate academic records, including verification of class rosters, no-show reports, student grades, and student course evaluations by dates requested by the College; maintain course Canvas page utilizing Universal Design strategies.

  • Maintain a classroom environment that recognizes and honors the critical role of diversity, equity, and inclusion by demonstrating an understanding of historically disadvantaged populations and awareness of cultural relevance to an educational community. Welcome differences and model respectful interaction with others.

  • Develop and assign learning activities appropriate to the course and program learning outcomes. At the beginning of each quarter, provide students with course syllabi and a list of required materials and distribute or post appropriate learning resources. Provide instructional feedback and assign grades in a timely manner.

  • Take part in the Professional Educator Standards Board (PESB) accreditation process.

  • Support the director in compiling artifacts and narratives for PESB.

  • Maintain program alignment with K-8 and ELL endorsement competencies and required PESB topics.

  • Assess course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes to improve success in teaching and learning.

  • Design and administer key assessments aligned with the role standards designated for each course.

  • Be engaged in innovative work to improve student retention and program completion.

  • Collaborate with other faculty in selecting learning resources and technologies to support the curriculum.

  • Attend professional development to improve teaching and learning and remain current in the discipline.

  • Engage in shared governance by serving on college committees and participating in department, division, and college meetings.

  • Engage effectively with the community both within and outside of GHC.

  • Teach to the Cultural Competency Standards and maintain culturally relevant instruction.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in education or a closely related field from an institutionally accredited college or university; or professional experience in a directly related field, and qualification to teach Teacher Education.

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching in K-8 classrooms.

  • Experience teaching English Language Learners in the K-8 system.

  • Experience with culturally responsive teaching.

  • Experience in curriculum development, instruction, and evaluation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Washington State Teacher Certification with English Language Learner Endorsement.

  • Minimum of five years of experience teaching in K-8 classrooms.

  • Demonstrated experience working to close equity gaps in education.

  • Three years of college-level teaching experience.

  • Experience in teaching education at the bachelor's degree level.

  • Experience engaging students through multiple learning modalities, including online/hybrid/hyflex instruction.

  • Experience assessing student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional level.
